If not what is? Kind of related to the cool bike thread, can a paint job make a bike cool/cooler?
-
Yep it's pretty damn good :thumbup .
What year is that Fireblade?. I'm guessing late 90's?. IMHO that period either side of the millenium produced the best looking Japanese bikes of all, even before taking the colour schemes into consideration.
-
Is this the best standard paint job on any bike ever? (http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php?topic=25775.msg305602#msg305602)No. But it's not bad. And it is celebrated and seen as iconic. I'm just not it's biggest fan.
What year is that Fireblade?
1994, not long after the fox eye headlamp.
I always loved the very early twin round lamps, but folks want silly money for them now.

The one with the under-seat silencer was a cracking looking bike too. You're right about the prices for the early ones. Bonkers.
-
Back in the good old 2-stroke days a mate of mine had one of the first new RGV 250's in the classic Suzuki blue/white colours.
Within 6 months he'd decided to get it resprayed in a hideous fluorescent green/pink scheme which began fading almost immediately. It was heart-breaking to see such vandalism :'(
-
This is my Favorite standard paint job .

No.
-
This was my round headlight 'blade. I always preferred this scheme to the urban tiger one TBH

Not a bad bike, I wouldn't say they were as great as they were made out to be

Its up at the top. Definitely a stunning looking scheme
-
Iconic colour scheme, that Urban tiger. 8) A bike that needs to be kept totally original plus with mint graphics. Classic status.
All the 900RR's of a similar era appear to retain high resale values.
-

Nice bike.
Some of the paint jobs through the 90’s were horrendous. The fireable certainly suffered a few.
This must be one of the worst;(https://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/Gallery%20B/Honda%20CBR900RR%2099%20%202.JPG)

I like that
-
In general I think the majority of Fireblade paint jobs have been poor. The urban tiger has become a classic, and does work, but who on earth would choose brown for the colour of their tank. When I bought my blade, I didn't really like any of the 3 colour options and chose the one I disliked the least. It was the bike I wanted, but wished it looked as sharp as the offerings from Yam/Kawa/Suzuki.
-
I dunno, I think they hit the nail on the head with this one.....
Just think it took 5 more years after this for the body work to catch up. The 2006 Fireblade is still a dream bike of mine
-
It is nice, but I think a 2006 R1 in Java red beats it.
-
I like that
:eek :eek :eek :eek
First time I saw one I almost vomited on the spot. It is disgusting.
-

I always thought the best looking R1 was the 2003 in silver. Can't find photo that does it justice mind you.

The 80's and 90's was a time of bad taste and often dodgy paint jobs.
Now and agian the Japanese could nail it though;

I mean what a start, what a bike, great foccin style and top notch paint job.
Then eventually it ended up looking like this....... They must have all been doing acid and speed down the paint shop :eek ;
-
Yamaha weren't totally innocent either
-
Or if that isn't to sir's taste....
-
Yeah, a pink sports bike - nice.
-
I had a 93 CBR600F. Dead easy to keep clean. And they looked fab with the right paint job. I mean how sweet is this?(https://mcn-images.bauersecure.com/PageFiles/579705/2.jpg)
-

Haha I learnt to ride a bike on a TZR 125 with that paint scheme ☺
-
Then the paint shop started doing drugs. I think it must have been heroin at Honda. I mean this is just depressing……(https://i.pinimg.com/originals/1a/41/8e/1a418e2aa631afa04970e4bc2118dc77.jpg)
-
Here’s mine. I thought it looked fab. I think it still looks good, but I guess the paint shop boys were heading towards the tipping point at this stage.

That’s trick for a 125! The pink doesn’t do it any favours though :lol Love the tiny pipe. 8)

I thought that was just a standard 2 stroke thing? My rs250 had 2 tiny pipes too?
That went like stink but sounded like crap Haha like someone blowing a trumpet Into a tin can 😂
-
Yeah the expansion chamber and small pipe like most two strokes, but's a super tiny pipe before the silencer. :)
-
I'd agree the 2002 red'n'black was one of best. Then they ruined it the following year by reversing the colours. Tried hard to get one of these but my RRW had lost too much, so the finances couldn't stretch to it. Kept it another 14 years, before letting it go. :'(
-
I like Suzuki with their white and blue thing, and this one with lots of black.I'm not a sportsbike dude, but this looks good.

And if you wanna stand out from the crowd, this Hayabusa is for sale at Regal Superbikes in Workington. :eek :lol

That's where I bought my Fz1 haha
-
And while I'm on that note.... I may be a tad bias but what a stunning paint job 😍😍 was literally the reason I bought it 😅
-
That's a brutal looking bike Dudeofrude. I love these, especially coupled with the RG500

Simplicity isn't it. And it works. Hard to believe that model is nearly 35 years old now :eek .
-
And then there's always.....
-
Going back a few years but I like this.
-
I still love the colour of my old Gixxer, only ever saw one other on the road.
-
Going back a few years but I like this.
Yeah I thought the original FZ750 looked great with the half fairing showing off the forward canted engine wi the gold covers.
-
Oh yeah RGV250s
They started off with nice paint jobs like this......

-
Was it rave culture that did the damage? Too many eccies? But somebody thought this was a good idea.......

:lol They all went that way for a little while. I never liked that 'flung paint' look. In the end it was only the colour schemes that put me off having one of the new KLX 650's in 1993.
Seeing what a limited range of trail bikes are available now I'd happily have one, bonkers graphics or not :lol

Yeah I mean sure they look even worse now, but even then a lot of us were thinking - what the foc is going on.
I reckon the GSX1100R nicely sums up the early 90's. A real man's bike, in shite colours, which in reality would be wasted by a well ridden CBR600F (possible in equally repugnant colours).
(https://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/Gallery%20%20A/suzuki%20gsxr%201100%2092%2002.jpg) :lol

It looks like they printed a book full of just the outlines and got a load of kids to colour them in :lol

How can a bike be any more perfect? :eek :eek :eek :eek :eek I can't think of one thing I would change except for the tyres, just for the legality, fabulous!
-
Agreed. Stunning. :eek 8)
I consider Bikes works of art (cars not so much) and THAT creation of yours Dudeofrude is a perfect example. :thumbup
-
Thanks fellas.... she is a beaut
But on the subject of lairy paint jobs, let's not forgot our good friends at Suzuki when they teamed up with Corona for the SRAD 😬😬
-
I think I need to lie down after seeing that. My God.
-
I still love the colour of my old Gixxer, only ever saw one other on the road.
I like that. Never keen on the blue and white, always thought them plain looking, but hey ho thats life
-
I always liked simple from the past
-
Some of that Katana isn't standard though is it?. I'm pretty sure they never came with a belly pan and that rear bodywork is aftermarket I reckon.
-
Naw that's no right.

The pleasure was all mine Frosties. You are welcome :kiss
-
It's not standard and I certainly wouldnt describe it as the best but it's certainly interesting
-
That's impressive, but even better if they have a helmet which looks like a flaming skull! :thumbup
