Title: one for the older bikers..
Post by: ogri48 on 14 November 2018, 08:02:47 pm
one of the fellers on the cb1300 forum has painted his bike like a silver cbx1000. apparently hunts had four done from new by dream machine paint in derby, two in red, two in silver. The reds lovely too, but the silver works best for moi...more akin to the first naked one that came out. I love the standard red/white paint on mine, but if I could afford it, I'd have the silver jobbie..

lol, I never owned or rode one, but I guessing it wouldn't have made much sense as real world bike. Pretty impressive to a teenager though when the first pics came out in MCN  :)

I like the red one. Red and black have always been favourite colours of mine as a combination, since my Kwak turbo really. I prefer the CBX in red too.

And think if that was today, at that age he wouldn't have been trusted on anything bigger than a cg125 🙄😞

Fair play to him, he started working with my dad aged 14 doing tyre fitting, he paid for them himself.
He was one of those people who if he wanted something he'd just graft away until he had the money to have it.

Weekend days for him were spent polishing the engine with toothbrushes.
That's where we differed....a lot  :lol

I had one moment that taught me to respect it in pretty bloody short order - got into a proper tank slapper that scared the shit out of me lol. Never stacked that one though...miracles do happen!

Wasn't long before one bike wasn't enough:

The turbo was foccin tame compared to the Denco-tuned H2.

I know mate. Sometimes I think about what I'd be sitting on if I could have kept all the bikes I've had; RG500, GSXR750 and 1100 slabbies, two H2s, a Z1 etc etc.

Although, the H2 wasn't standard; full Denco tune with 34mmm Mikunis, Denco expansion pipes, Dresda s/arm, Marzocchi Strada rear shocks. Denco are long defunct but I don't know if that would increase or decrease its value. The latter, I suspect. It was immaculate at the time.

My brother had a mate who had a CB900, black one, with  mods. I thought that was beautiful - I was still too young to ride at that time.

I think the 750 was prolly a better bike in truth. 900s burnt oil from new, apparently the 750 didn't. all I can say is mine put me off Hondas for years

I'm not really a Honda fan myself in all honesty, never have been. They always seemed to pull their punches a bit, a bit too 'polished' if you know what I mean. I still hear that about them now, with much more recent models. There've been a few I would have liked to try though.

Have to say that CB13 in silver is stunning. Would lose the tank decals though.

Oh, just remembered, saw this one recently in Keswick:

Big bore kit, hot cams (for midrange, so still starts and runs ok), 33mm carbs etc, ZX7R s/arm adapted for twin shocks. Had a long chat with the owner, possibly left some drool on it  :lol

I drooled over the first VF 750 F when it appeared in the magazines but couldn't afford one when they came out.

In '92 I was a bit better off and convinced my wife that one would suit her - and she agreed. She still loves that bike today.

But, right now, it's up on my bench in the garage for a proper re-furnish - as it's not been used for 15 years, since she started riding the Fazer 1000  :lol .

It'll be mint/pristine (and slightly updated/modded) by next spring  :)

Yeah Steve, 2nd bike to go on the bench for a re-furb.

Everyone who come to my garage is amazed at how strong and sturdy the bench is compared to the pressed mild steel units that are generally popular. What I love are the two holes in the bench-top in the middle - I just put a bin under them and brush all of the crap that comes off the bike, down through the hole into the bin. Makes keeping the working area clean, super-easy.
Very glad you "allowed" me to buy it from you  :lol :lol

Millietant, The 2 holes are either side of a cross member they were there to chain the bike down to stop 2 legged feral rats removing my bike when we were away from home, and the dog wasn't there to object.

The red CB13 looks lush, the silver one not so.

What a glorious noise that CBX makes on the track!

I never really liked the CBX, by the time i passed my text in '86 there were other, better bikes available. We used to go baiting bikes like the, CBX, Z1000, CB750/900 etc on our LC's. Until we grew up a bit and moved onto GSX R750s, then it wasnt really sport anymore.

Here's me on my brand new 350 YPVS. First new 'big' bike after a second hand LC.

Note the thoroughly unsuitable footwear and period jeans our model is wearing and the most fashionable 'Mullet' poking from the rear of the FM Galactica ;)
Wish I still had the bike. Don't want to see the Mullet ever again tho :lol

There was a CBX at this years Spa Classic. Seemed loud enough to make your ears bleed.

they fired up that Norton v4 on open pipes at the NEC today when me and Dave (Dynspud) was about six feet away from it. Now that did make our ears bleeed…. ;) :)
