Title: AIS removal and two water pipes
Post by: bludclot on 30 May 2018, 06:48:43 pm

My Gen 1 is a little bit apart and the valve clearances have come in well within tolerance so I'm pleased. Two questions while it's open:

1 - is there any wisdom in removing the two water pipes that protrude from the valve cover? If they come out easily I'll renew them, if they are nothing but grief they can stay, it's purely a cosmetic thing for me. (Bike is absolutely mint, I am borderline obsessive regarding my vehicles.)

2 - can anyone point me towards an AIS deletion kit?

Any help appreciated thanks.

Last year i bought the kit from Holeshot in the US, not cheap but very well made.

Sorry for the very small link, it does work if clicked, don't know what happened there as i'm having a couple of tech issues with site at the moment.

You could try sending stevegixer a pm. He had a pal who was making the blanking plugs for a very reasonable amount.

Be worth checking the two water pipes for corrosion, they come out ok but buy new o rings to put them back in. Mine were horribly corroded, I saved them with chemical metal. If they are bad it’s worth checking the other pipes on the bike, but drop the water and oil 1st.

As to the AIS. I just used cut down M8 cap head screws and tapped the holes out on the exhaust ports.

A decent tap and cut down bolts and a spare spigot cap.

How are the two outside exhaust air inlets drilled and tapped? Space above is tight....

Also before you remove said pipes, make sure you clean out any debris and other crap from around them, as you dont want this going into the engine.
