anyone ever tried hamerite smooth on their down pipes ?

-
I personally wouldn't as it's not for exhaust temps & will end up as a molten mess & stink. (http://foc-u.co.uk/Smileys/efocicon/smile.gif)

-
Simoniz Sperex VHT is the sort of product that would do the job.

-
I used stove paint on mine from eBay. Works fine.

Thanks for that Creaky, can you post a link to the one you bought.
I have a C90 silencer that I part painted with a high temp paint that burnt off within 50 miles.

Sorry can't post link as away at the moment but this is the item no.

 Should relate to
Rustins Matt black stove paint 250ml tin which is plenty for the job.

 Cheers

i cheaped out on some vht paint and it looks awefull i have used it on the ybr build to protect the pipes a bit then wrapped in exhaust wrap to hide the paint

-
Yeah, but did the vht stay on. Spraying them is one thing. Having them look good is a whole new subject :lol .

-
its stayed on chop downpipes without a problem never burnt off - making sure there is no rust on them is very important but nothing that cant be done with some scotchbrite and thinners on a cloth (dont use thinners on hot pipes obviously)

-
I have tried 3 types of VHT on the down pipes, grenvile cylinder black, simonz VHT and rust oleum and they all flake off in places after a while. Very well preprepared spotlessly clean and degreased with alcohol - doesn't matter still flakes.
Any suggestions for something else to try and I am all ears.

if you want good looking black downpipes then the best way is ceramic coating

Done mine today with simonz VHT, looks ok hopefully won't flake, I'll keep an eye on it

OKayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy, but I used Rustin Black Stove on the surface rusty part of my Honda C 90 silencer and it burnt off in 50 miles.
 See pic.
 New exhaust on order
-
that shouldnt have burnt off there - that part of the exhaust should be relevently cool in comparison to the rest of an exhaust

Like I said I have not yet found one that wont flake off. ceramic coating looks good but not worth doing on 20 year old downpipes compared to just buying some new stainless steel ones

Just redone mine in situ didn't fancy any major f - ups removing them a couple of weeks before the MOT. Plugged a couple of holes for the 3rd time this time with JB weld heat putty
