Hello Guys.
I´ve bought a used FZS 600 1998-1999. No tool kit was on the bike. I wish to buy an oil filter wrench. There are some universal on ebay or amazon but I am not sure if they work. Can you suggest me one and also tell me if you know, what´s the diameter for the filter? I ve seen a cheap one that is for 65mm diameter filter. Is it the filter this size?

Wemoto do a oil filter wrench for your bike £4.52 If you've never used I have found them good to use with quick delivery, though other people I know have not been so complimentary.

I use the type that is a cap which fits over the filter and has a socket wrench hole in the top and then thread a short socket extension bar through the downpipes to get on to it.

No extra tools are needed, just place a sharp screwdriver at the edge of the filter and tap it round with a hammer.
In a couple of seconds it’s rotated far enough to undo it the rest of the way by hand. :)

What gets me is what law of physics dictate that you do up an oil filter by hand and it tightens its self up and yet you tighten a nut by hand and it will fall off within a day

Ahh! So true Sharpie, but, if you put a small rubber O ring under the nut then nip it up tight with your fingers Hey presto the little blighter stays in place especially if you make the O ring moist with a little oil.
But have to agree the cup type oil filter remover are the best I have used, 1/2" socket extension bar fits nicely between the headers.
I have bought and tried strap, chain, C jawed pliers types, I have even reverted to driving a massive great pound through screwdriver right through the filter and used the screwdriver as a tommy bar to remove filters on different vehicle in the past (last method = last resort) but that is messy and should you find that the idiot down at the Motorfactors has given you the wrong filter you focc-d your not going anywhere in or on you steed.

Be aware that there are 2 sizes of cup filter wrenches for different width oil filters. Make sure you get the right one.

Always nip up my oil filter by hand with a smearing of oil, but as said over time they do tend to really tighten up.
Bought myself a 'heavy duty' chain wrench, probably overkill but WILL work and they're cheap too.
Not used it yet, but a proper bit of kit when it matters.

I've got one of these but it's a pain in the ars* to use on the bike because of the limited access from the exhaust down pipes.
It still does the job though.

That's the type i normally used, and although works well it can be fiddly, so i thought i'd try this one as it was so cheap.

That's why the 'cup' wrenches are so easy to use. Pop it on the filter and socket spanner with short extension bar between the middle two pipes. Simple.

So did a screwdriver - just punch through a filter and use it as a lever.
The one Darrsi linked looks very nice and practical for most filters - including Fazer's.

Noooo? A ratchet with an extension bar should keep your knuckles intact no problem.
