Title: First ride on my Fazer since passing my test!
Post by: motodevcam on 28 July 2017, 10:15:02 am
Took the Fazer to the MOT centre this morning!

Passed my MOD 2 on Monday, been tinkering with the Fazer for a couple of months but couldn't ride it. (Not worth the risk with no insurance tax or MOT) I've been learning on the schools old naked xjs600 diversion. Bit lower and generally much more agricultural. That was the only bike id ever ridden until this morning!! Strangest thing was the clocks staying still when the bars move! Felt so odd compared to the diversion! Much more planted feel though and sounds amazing! First time ever riding in the raid though...that made things a bit tentative on the roundabouts!! Phew!!

Send some good vibes for the MOT pass!
Here she is before I left her!

A bit OT...but can you buy anything to make the seat less slidey? A spray or something?

This will tide you over until you can afford around £150 for a Digger or Archer seat.

Cut into strip and wrap around the seat.

If you were wearing textile trousers you will slide a bit, but not in leathers or jeans.

Why, I use WD40 or polish mine to allow me to move around more :eek

I'm with the OP in that I don't like sliding around - I like to feel planted and that my knees grip and push the bike when I want to. Like to stay put when braking or accelerating hard.

Another personnal preference I guess.

Years ago my mechanic who used to do my MOT's used to spray my seat with what i can only imagine was something like Mr Sheen.
It used to freak me right out, i'd accelerate and instantly slide back to the passenger seat.
After 3 or 4 years i politely asked him to stop doing it.

When cleaning and polishing I make sure that no polish gets onto the seat - even just sitting the wet polishing rag is enough, I find that I can still move around enough without any polish help.
To get the polish off the seat try some cif ------------ dont care its still Jif to me

Carpet gripper rod super glued on you arse helps.
Hello and well done on the test, great choice of bike, I'm sure you will have a shed load of fun on it, just remember every car driver wants to knock you off, well maybe not want to knock you off, but, cos they don't see bikes they have the potential to knock you off.

Asda do the same thing in their car section for about 4 quid

Treat every other road user as a complete idiot expect them to do the most stupid thing they wont disappoint you as I found out after lying under a 750 Suzuki against a garden wall after being pulled out on. The car driver said sorry mate I didn't see you, your head light dazzled me it was in the middle of a town dark and drizzling with rain and yes the light was on dipped beam. Rubber side down enjoy the bike.

Woah lots of replies!! Thank you for the helpful suggestions and kind words :) on my phone so can't find the quote key so apologies!! Great shout on the sticky grip mat stuff. I'll whack a bit on and take her up the road, if it's ok I'll fit some properly. I'm a big Unit though  (15st) so might end up ripping it.....? Er....I may have cleaned the seat with that pink instant shine spray stuff.... I'll go and get some JIF! Well, you live and you learn! At the button of my road there is a gentle long decent with an ra at the end. First ride yesterday, wet seat too came to a gentle stop at the ra and slid w inches forward, balls right into the tank Ha ha!!

Maybe gripper rods are the answer...?

I'm 17.5 - 18 stone fella and the sticky mat served me well. Ride 100 miles a day commuting 365 days and don't hang about. Only needed to replace it once in a year. Reckon one mat would give 6-8 fittings.

Have you recently cleaned your seat with some kind of spray at all?
If so just don't ever clean it again and you'll probably find it to be fine.
I have the rubber matting on my pillion seat and it really does plant anyone who sits on it which is great, but i can't ever imagine wanting to have it under me as i reckon it would be too restrictive.
