Why ask a load of internet people you don't know...have you considered asking Shoei?
-
asksed shoei ages ago about something else never got a reply or anything
-
Maybe they were reluctant to support someone who they don't know carving up one of their helmets? What I am not so subtly saying is 'It's a decision only you can make' it's not right to ask us...lets say you were unfortunate and had an accident ...that 'missing' bit of padding may make a difference...I don't know. I suggest going to a Shoei agent or persist in your contact attempts with them would be the sensible thing to do. Good luck.

+1 your only asking because you know is a bad call mush
-
Wouldn't catch me doing it!!

I might alter a bit of the cloth padding but i personaly wouldnt alter the polystyrine type stuff. then again 15 years ago i would and did do silly stuff like that. your head your choice

I have missed UG's pearls of wisdom!

Shoei lids have a space for earphones already (at least my last two have) so you shouldnt need to cut anything.

I needed a bit more clearance in my Shoei for my Autocom earphones. Instead of cutting I heated a spoon and slightly deformed the inner by applying heat. Neater and less damaging I reckon.

Shoei models/testers (japanese?) have ears in different positions to the rest of us it would seem.
