Title: Fazer 2004 Gen 1 Oil Cap Issue
Post by: hopskimoet on 09 April 2017, 07:02:28 pm
Just recently purchased a FZS1000 2004 (23K) and during riding there is weepage at the oil filler cap. At first, I thought a gasket had failed as the oil was collecting under the clutch cover. I have tightened the oil filler cap as tight as it will go and still she weeps. I was thinking maybe a quick fix by using a few layers of PTFE (plumber's tape) as it does offer good heat resistance. Is this an inherent issue or is it something unique and an indicator of a deeper problem?

There should be an 'O' ring fitted to the cap, check it is there / not damaged.

Of course... I'll check it... Is the washer bike specific? Or can I just use one from a kit?

As long as the 'O' ring is a reasonably tight fit on the cap then any one will do.

Sorted. The 'O' ring was missing. Ordered one from Fowlers for £7 although I could have just used one from a standard kit. No drama though. Does anyone know what color silver I need to touch up the engine?
