my new to me Fazer has heated grips. That weren't working. But on further inspection the fuse was removed. I also noticed that it's just supplied direct from the Pos and Neg on the battery. So I imagine a battery drain caused the fuse removal. I fitted a fuse, and they do work on all four settings Oxford system.
So where do people generally take the positive from to prevent a flat battery.

Use a relay to switch on to power to them only when the ignition is on, as this will turn them off when the ignition is turned off. No fear then of flattening the battery that way as you cannot walk away leaving them on.
Take the supply for the relay from somewhere like the horn or brake light circuits and run the power for the heated grips through the relay contacts via a fuse to the battery positive.

Which version of the Oxford grips is it? If it's v8 the controller has an 'automatic off' facility to stop it draining the battery. Works fine.

From the horn

Just use one of the spare switched lives in the fuse box.
See the guide to fitting heated grips on the old forum here - http://fazerowners.yuku.com/topic/5650/HOWTO-Fit-your-heated-grips-PICS-BACK#.WNJd26LfNaQ (http://fazerowners.yuku.com/topic/5650/HOWTO-Fit-your-heated-grips-PICS-BACK#.WNJd26LfNaQ)
Scroll down the page to see the photos I added on how to access the spare switched live. Hook up to that using an inline fuse.
