Title: Clutch springs
Post by: matt7chunk on 20 February 2017, 11:01:13 pm
hey

I have to change my clutch soon , Quick question, What are the benefits of heavy duty clutch springs if any? Or should i just reuse the original springs?

Some people fit heavy duty springs if their clutch is slipping. Although clutch slip is more commonly the result of the putting in the wrong oil, putting too much oil in, the clutch being worn or the mechanism or cable need adjusting.

I fitted heavy duty springs to mine before I new all of the above. Although my clutch was slipping because the OEM springs were 17yrs old and with continual use and thermal cycling had shortened. At the time I wish I'd just fitted NEW OEM springs, although I've actually got used to having a heavier clutch now.

I think new springs are relatively inexpensive compared to the cost of clutch plates.

Do some research on here and you'll find several times that Heavy Duty clutch springs are not advised.

mine has new springs and clutch plates and the lever is deffo alot heavier these and not necessary if your springs are worn "check length" then replace with standard and new plates if they are worn these bike are not renowned for  weak clutches
