Title: cost of spare parts?
Post by: chaz on 16 March 2012, 09:40:08 am
After loosing the nut off the front sprocket on my FZ 6 I have to pay £17.47 for it and a new tab washer when in the US I could got the same for under $7.

Plus in the US they were replacing them for free as it was a service upgrade (should it have been a recall). On 04/05s

My Yamaha dealer says that this is not the case in the UK.

Am I just being a typical Yorkshireman   HOOOOOOOOW MUUUUUUUUUUUUUCH.

Everything automotive costs more here than in the US, partly due to the size of the market, partly because of what that market will 'bear', but mostly because we simply put up with it here (which is sort of the same thing).
I think it's common knowledge that we're just being ripped the whole time?

I find Yamaha prices to be expensive ,an example is a steel sleeve for the exup is £41,the exup valve is £350,a clutch cable is £90,I bet yamaha will blame the strong yen but even so their prices are still high

well I've got the nut and tab washer got some loc-tite and a torque wrench with 32mm socket so should be up and running (or should that be riding) in the morning.

the only thing I didn't do was measure the threaded part of the drive shaft, if less than 17.5 mm REPLACE THE DRIVE SHAFT,
there's not enough thread left on mine, the nut just spun off before I got anywhere near the 65 foot lbs torque.

HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP?

I'm not savvy enough to know the answer but can it be re-threaded rather than replaced? Dunno if it could be done in-situ tho.
