Title: Stainless Downpipes
Post by: Andy Clap on 17 January 2017, 06:14:02 pm
So, my new Motad downpipes have arrived, and to be honest I'm quite disappointed.  No doubt good quality and hopes are high they'll fit accurately, but the finish looks as if they've come straight off the welding rig and been boxed.  I expected them to be all polished and shiney.

If you've fitted stainless (especially Motad), were they polished to a decent level when you bought them?

Not sure how best to finish mine, I think there's too much to do for Autosol   :o

(also no gaskets/fitting kit included for £250!!)

Bought & fitted Motad two years ago & came without gaskets (but I knew that) fitted no probs & they came shiny.

Mine weren't particularly shiny or stainless but they fit without too much trouble, that said I didn't fit them because I didn't fancy tackling the head bolts, the guy who fitted them said they were a good fit.
Must admit I wasn't bothered about the bling aspect as I ride in all weathers.

Well if I was you I would give them a call, they don't look anything like mine or like shown on their site I know you got them cheaper when you rang but a lot of us on here have done the same. Looks like they forgot to polish them for sure, they are normally ok to deal with if you have a problem even send them the pics if needed.
I wouldn't put them on my bike.

Brill, many thanks.  I've dropped them an email with the pics.

Cheers,

Got mine two years ago on evilBay, I think I only paid about £180 for mine I wish I could remember the make but I don't.
Mine were highly polished and came with gaskets, but mine dont have the little link pipes between the 2 outer down tubes like the originals had, but I can not say I have noticed any difference in the performance of the old girl, she still flies.
Come to think of it I believe I may of bid for them????????? or was that the MR2 stainless manifold? Dunno.
Anyway I replaced all the studs and nuts with stainless steel while I was at it and the down pipes could not have been a better fit, I put a small dab of grease on the gaskets just enough to hold them in place and the down pipes just slipped into cylinder head, with no alignment problems what-so-ever.

I will have a look back at my evilBay purchases see if I can find them.

Nope seems you can only go back till January 2015 on my account for some reason. But I know they were less than 200 quid as I was well chuffed at the time with the price.

You can see the polished finish of the down pipes in the pic below + it shows the lack of the two little links.

I see Motad offer a "brushed" finish option as well as polished, is that what they've sent you?

Possibly, although they look more unfinished.
Having absolutely no luck getting an email reply or to speak to anybody  :(

The brushed option is for the cans not downpipes, have you not heard from them Andy?, as said before I & others on here have found them to be very good, with others on here waiting to hear of your outcome they will lose out on custom if they don't sort it.

Yep me too.
They look like I think what is called Dull Stainless as brushed is what the OEM can are and they do not look brushed.
Or rather lightly brushed in places to tidy up ready for the next stage of polishing --- which they never did.

I wonder if the cost to them to send them back would be too much and they just send you a new (polished set out ) Then you could sell the dull set to me for £50

Still nothing from Motad.  Not answering emails or returning calls.  Did not expect this from them.

I'm just going to stick them on the bike, it's 15 years old and not immaculate, and just tell everybody who ass not to buy Motad  :(
