Title: Hesitation and coolant from cylinder drain hole
Post by: pike86 on 29 December 2016, 04:40:55 pm

Hiya

Hope you've all had a good Christmas

Just looking for abit of advice if possible, as i'm relatively new to bikes.

I've noticed over the past few months that the bike hesitates when accelerating, usually for the first 5-10 minutes or directly after riding very slowly for a period of time (I practice going in and out of cones, u-turns,, etc in a local car park). I've found that if I accelerate hard enough that it seems to clear.

However today I started the bike up as it's been sat outside for a week without running. I noticed coolant coming from the Cylinder Head weep/drain hole on the left side, the liquid was green. After turning the bike off and leaving it for 15 minutes I restarted it but after running it for 15 minutes but no further coolant came from the drain hole. I checked above the engine for leaks and couldn't find any, so I'm thinking it may be internal.

Just wondering what could be the cause of coolant coming from the weep hole? I'm putting two and two together and thinking that a gasket/seal may have gone that is leaking into the spark plug cavity which may be causing the hesitation and leakage. Just not that familiar with bikes to locate the seals that may be the cause, anyone able to point me in the right direction?

Cheers in advance!!

Martin

I believe that the cylinder drain holes you speak about is the ones for the water that may collect when washing or rain & drains it away from the spark plugs/holes,so I think you may well have a coolant leak above your plugs, you will have to remove the fuel tank to try & find it.

Yep use the above thread regarding the leak, it pretty much covers everything.

The hesitation however is not so easy, especially as the bike is new to you.
There are so many things that can cause hesitation you will literally have to slowly go through things ONE AT A TIME.
Don't try two or more things at once as it'll just confuse you, plus you won't know what the exact problem was.

Air filter clogged up
Plugs dirty/loose
HT Leads
Plug caps breaking down
Air leak
TPS issues
Carb balance
Dirty/blocked carbs
Fuel filter clogged
Kinked fuel line
Fuel tap not fully on

Thanks guys, much appreciated.

I've got some new plugs ready to go, air filter is on it's way, so i'll pop the tank off and have a good look around over the next day or two!!
Cracking list, i'll work through that as well!

Cheers again

Hopefully the hesitation is just coolant running down the ht leads into the plug caps were they screw onto the ends.As you said you've been doing turns in/out of cones when you remove the fuel tank make sure that the overflow pipe under the radiator cap is there & is routed correctly.

Can you go into your profile and alter it so we can see exactly what bike you have, as it can make quite a bit of difference with some things, like tank, fairing, lights, etc, as there are 3 versions of the 600.  ;)

Yep that was mine it was as simple as a missing clip off one of the smaller pipes, there are quite a few large and small diameter pipes up there above the engine, mine was leaking at o/s it sounds like yours is n/s ?

We got the tank pivoted up (instructions in thread) and had a good luck at all the pipes with a torch, someone also mentioned the thermostat is in there, which is probably the worst case scenario more likely a hose or clip?

Good luck in sorting it  :thumbup
