Title: Dog bones
Post by: Ghoti on 14 March 2012, 09:54:04 pm
Just cleared out the shed and found 3 sets of dog bones of different sizes.

I know 1 jacks the back up but not sure about the other 2. Guess 1 is standard and one changes ride height, but don't know which way.

Measurements between holes are roughly 130mm, 126mm and 121mm.

Can anyone please advise on which does what to ride heights so I can advertise them appropriately.

I can tell you the shorter the bones the taller the ride height if that helps.

As I understand from a bit of research I've done, standard is approx 140mm and every +/- 5mm gives an increase/decrease of approx 25mm in ride height, 130mm is the size to be fitted with an R6 shock to bring the ride height back to standard and 126mm will give approx 25mm higher ride height with an R6 shock.

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong?  :pokefun

Thanks PieEater and Karlo.

Karlo, exactly what I wanted, but where is that measurement from/to.  I cannot believe that my longest dogbones are 10mm shorter than standard.

My measurements above are from edge of hole to edge of hole (internal).  I don't have the dogbones with me, but if the measurement is centre of hole to centre of hole, I think 140mm is about the length of my longest set (so standard).  It then appears that I have a  1" and a  2" ride height jack up kit.

The standard way to measure such things is C/C ie center to center ( of the hole )

Hi folks,
Does anyone know the length of the bones for standard FZS1000? I bought some and they seem to be the same length as fitted. I measured them to be ~130mm between the holes, not the centre of the hole.

Regards

MartynR,

130mm between the holes was, IIRC, 140mm c/c holes, so you have standard bones there.

Hi, is there anyone else who could confirm the original size of the dog bones/suspension links? I was told by some people that it is 144mm from hole centre to hole centre.

Just measured mine at 144 mm.

Cheers for that. So I believe that the standard length is 144mm for a FZS1000('01-'05).

Do you still have these and are they for sale?
Cheers,
