Title: bottom of forks
Post by: mobile mouse on 10 November 2016, 11:52:28 pm
Hi,
About to service the forks with new oil.... and maybe new linear springs.
But thinking about having them vapour blasted to really clean them up....

The bike is a Foxeye MY03 with about 44k on the clock and ridden all year round.
Are they painted and if so what is the colour.
Or is it alu and a clear coat on top....

Your thoughts are appreciated.

I had my forks sprayed and lacquered ages ago, but just bear in mind it's an area that gets unavoidably chipped away at by stones, salt, etc, over time.
Go for 15w oil over the standard 10w as well, to improve the handling of the bike.

Gives a good finish, started with halfords etch primer. No lacquer needed and ofter some research it turns out that
lacquer is softer than the wheel paint and is more likely to scratch.

Its paint, I think that it was only the first bikes that were not paint 98- 99 -2000 at latest.
My 98 is polished alloy, sort of a soft brushed look and then lacquer on top, which when chipped gets water on it and turns the edge of the chip hole white which tracks under the lacquer, which looks more of a mess than chipped paint.
Here is a picture of mine, if I was bothered I would do something about it but I think I would still do them the same

Probably not, but it's seen some corners at a respectable speed to judge by the tyre. :thumbup

No it has not - at least not since 2001 when I brought it but the white marks were mostly already done by then. And thats not the first coat of paint those downpipes have had.
