Title: Centre Stand Repair

As you can see it’s well and truly focced. The 1st thing was a shot blast to remove all the crap, It's a lot worse than I expected
A piece of steel  tubing bent slightly and squished at the ends in a vice makes a good replacement.
With the feet Tac welded to a bar and a screwed rod keeping the spar distance safe it’s safe to mig weld.
I'm spraying it back to black today, lets hope it fits alright.

I'm thinking of refurbishing my fazer, and the centre stand needs painting.
Have you any tips about getting the stand off and on.

It's a lot easier than you'd think, loosen both sides first then just take one bolt off and move the stand, then the spring will compress so you can easily undo the other side.
When refitting, put one bolt in then you'll be able to pull the other side into position with the spring still attached.

I have a 'new' one sat outside that I need to fit to my bike. I sprayed it with black hammerite and it looks really good. The one currently on my bike is in good condition, but the arm with the rubber bung on has gone missing. It's a job I've been putting off as it will involve laying on the floor and messing with springs, on a bike parked on the street.

Yep it's not too difficult a job Paul, make sure you give the bolts a good coating of grease, I'll stick a pic up as I'm fitting mine back to the bike tonight.

The only other pieces of advice I think I need are:
Which side do you take the engine out of?
And what stuff do need take off the motor to enable it come out of the frame (other than the usual pipes, cables, carbs and wires)

That's a big step up from taking off the centre stand  :lol

I've not done anything like that before so i wouldn't know?

The engine comes out on the right hand side. I've had mine out a couple of times and can do it in about an hour. All the bits to take off are fairly obvious, but also remove the oil filter housing.

Where abouts are you? ;-)

First time was to replace head (knackered exhaust studs)
Second time to replace gearbox.
Third time to replace cam chain and reshim valves.

Back in takes 2 or 3hrs regardless as it's a bit of a faff reconnecting throttle cables, getting engine mount bolts back in, carb rubbers on, etc. Usually requires a bit of swearing and a few cups of tea.

To save on wire brushes and knuckles, Electrolysis is brilliant for cleaning rust offstuff like this.I started out with a bucket and a battery charger, now I have a wheelybin...

Hi chillitt, good call with the electrolysis, did you use caustic soda or washing soda crystals?



Back in takes 2 or 3hrs regardless as it's a bit of a faff reconnecting throttle cables, getting engine mount bolts back in, carb rubbers on, etc. Usually requires a bit of swearing and a few cups of tea.



Sounds like alot of fun Bretty, Can you lift the engine in on your own or do you need another pair of hands?

On your own with a trolley jack. Extra hands help, but only to support the bike and prevent it falling.

I use soda crystals.Nice and cheap and a bit friendlier than caustic
