Title: Rattle noise
Post by: Dudeofrude on 15 September 2016, 10:02:35 pm
Hey as I'm new to EFI bikes I'm just wondering if this is normal.....
I can hear a weird kind of rattle when I open the throttle? It doesn't matter which gear I'm in or what speed, it only does it when I open the throttle. As soon as I shut it off it goes away?
Is this normal for these bikes?

Anyone had the same thing?

Never had a rattle on my FZ1s,  maybe something slightly loose like the exhaust strap?

No its not a body work rattle it definitely something internal. It's almost like the injectors are spraying tiny ball bearing everytime they open? If you can imagine that sort of sound haha
Like it said it could be just a normal running sound but it don't have a clue?

From what you describe ( tiny ball bearings spraying when throttle opens) sounds like pinking.

That can be caused by incorrect ignition timing or really weak mixture. If that is what you have you will turn your engine to scrap in no time unless you sort it.

Check the ECU codes, might have a knock sensor issue. Is the bike standard?

Well after a little riding round today I've possibly narrowed it down to the clutch. I discovered that if I pull in the clutch lever then it stops the noise even if the throttle is open. So reckon its probably gonna be easier to get the mechy to look at it rather than trying to diagnose it myself?

On another note I do get a plinky kind of noise when I first started her up. Sounds like a nail being tapped on metal?  Thinking that could be a slight  exhaust leak though?

Either that or maybe something to do with the sprockets?

Has it got oil in it?

Yeah but I think it may be due a change. I only bought it 2 weeks ago and haven't got any record of the last time it was changed. Looks nice and clear through the window but worth changing as a precaution

How does this sound to you guys? Its it a bit rough or it just in my head? It's hard to hear the clutch on this video but in real life there's a distinct difference when the levers pulled it
I've just done an oil change and it not properly warm.
This isn't the rattle I was on about either but saved starting a new post...

Definitely not as smooth and quiet as mine, but I have no idea what the noise/rattle is :\

No i didn't think it was overly smooth? It's really vibey as well? Not sure of its got worse since I've had it or I'm just now noticing it more?
It's a pain cause this is my first litre bike so I have nothing to compare it to

Just took it to my mechy. He took it out for a quick ride and said that I don't have anything to worry about me it does have some clutch rumble but he said that's just what some bike are like (especially honda haha) and the rattle noise I'm hearing while riding is something loose on the bike resonating. So yeah, I'm all good haha

Took a quick video of mine this morning, won't let me upload it says file is too large.
But mine sounds noisier in the vid than in real life!  Think the microphones on phones/tablets make it sound worse than it is actually is,  maybe its a case of they all sound like that.
