Title: Oil in the Air Box
Post by: Tefer on 29 March 2016, 09:26:45 am
Hi,
I was out the other day checking to see if my FZS1000 had a performance air filter fitted, was thinking of fitting one. When I had the filter out i noticed there was what looked like engine oil in the air box, I assume this is not normal, anything I should be looking out for?

Does anyone have a preference on filters? K&N or Pipercross?

Cleaned my air filter out yesterday and had the same, I'm not worried as I tend to run my engine with max amount of oil and do use it as intended, so I expect a little crankcase blow and as the crankcase vents into airbox a little oil there is not an issue. As long as its not swimming with oil I'd just keep an eye on it.

I'm using a Pipercross for the simple reason that one came up on e-bay for a price I couldn't refuse.

Yes it is sometimes oily in there, the crankcase vents in to the air box as part of the emissions stuff. You can also get a bit a fuel in there which makes it look worse.

Give it a clean out, ride for a few hundred miles (keeping an eye on your oil level) the check again.

A performance filter is not recommended without a jet kit.
