Title: white gunge on oil plug inner surface
Post by: shieldr on 14 March 2016, 10:44:59 pm
Bike is pulling great but i recently opened the oil plug to find some white gunge that i have not seen before. I am concerned the head gasket is away. Any thoughts, checks or tips on this much appreciated.

There is not much in the way of back pressure ie any puffing out of the oil fill hole.

No worries whatsoever, just a cold thing.
Freaked me out first time i saw it, and i have pictures on here somewhere too.
Nothing to worry about, it's an oil/condensation mix that especially happens with short runs in colder air.

I'm out at the mo', do a search above for 'darrsi mayonnaise'.

That sounds so wrong.  :tape

Some times this can be caused by condensation if the bike doesn't get up to a good working temp if used on short trips in the colder weather, also check in the expansion tank for any white stuff floating in there will be a sign of blown head gasket.

Have washed it a couple of times since last week bringing it out of winter storage. My bet is new oil cap oring reqd. Hence the emulsified oil. Going to check for oil in coolant too Bandit; thanks.

As i said it's just a cold air/engine thing, same as billowing steam/smoke out of the exhaust in cold weather, if you're not used to seeing it, it looks really menacing, but it's perfectly normal.
Just wipe the gunk off the cap and ignore it.
If the bike really did have a gasket leak you'd soon know about it.
