Hi , anyone help me. I've just done Matlock bath protest ride yesterday, sun.
When I'm going along at say 30 or 40 or 50, but keeping it rock steady, bikes engine is fine. Soon as I open it up, it stutters and judders. Also when on idle the revs are going up and done, the rpm needle is moving up and down a lot , maybe 200rpm difference. Ive just taken fuel filter off today, and one is on its way. Just took fuel tap out of tank, that looks fine. And ordered a new set of ngk cr8e plugs, also on way. Should this cure it ? Or is there something I'm missing. Any feedback would be much appreciated, many thanks Roy

Check out Red98's "STUTTERING" thread...allow yourself a couple hours and a tin or two....he may even be along to advise here soon.
(If he's not too busy chatting up a granny)

I'm new to this site, where would his thread be ?

What you've done so far is the right route of eliminating easy stuff, another one is to remove the caps from the plugs and remove the caps from the wire, spray both ends of the cap with wd40 and the wire, thread the cap back on to the wire and replace on to the plug.

Cheers, might try that, if fuel filter and new plugs don't work

Just do it when replacing the plugs

Only done 6000 miles in total, it's gonna be something really blatant.
Have you been under the tank at all, and maybe kinked a pipe or not got the fuel tap fully turned on?
Has the air filter ever been changed?
-
Sounds like you need to chuck a bottle of this in followed by an Italian tune up :thumbup

Could also be air filter

Took plug caps off today, sprayed and screwed caps back on. They don't tighten, tight onto leads do they ?
Mine just keep spinning if turned, but a,re on, as tried slightly to pull off, and wouldn't move. Tank off a t mo, as air filter on way, so don't know if problem has gone.
-
Spinning like that is normal they don't have a thread on them. Anytime I've had plug cap problems it's shown at idle and low rpm then cleared higher up the revs. Might need a carb clean if it's parked up for a while between uses but I'd agree with everyone saying rule out the simplest stuff first.

New air filter fitted.

Out of curiosity, which brand did you buy?

Just put fuel filter on today, off eBay from M & P, fired up perfect, will take it out tomorrow for quick spin, to see if alls ok.

Knew you were gonna say that :lol
Not my cup of tea as I had an issue with one before, but if the bike is going better then fair enough.

Genuine yam, a rip off. The end of the day, it's just filtering air.

The HiFlo i bought filtered too much, and made the bike run terribly as it was being starved of air, so i binned that a few days later when the K&N turned up.
Vast improvement and was really noticeable, especially on a much sharper throttle response.

:agree I switched to a K&N filter, there was noticeable difference. K&N claims it's good for up to 50K, so it may be worth the investment long term? Apparently it's washable too- but I just blow it out with compressed air and give it a spray of Isopropyl Alcohol, leave to dry then it's good to go.

Trimmed Ht leads , new plugs. Runs fab now !!!
