Has anyone got any good tips for cleaning up the coolant expansion tank?
Mine's filthy inside and out and soap and hot water aren't bringing it up very well. :rolleyes

I would imagine baking soda could help, but i really don't see the point? It can't be seen and will just get dirty again straight away if you ride in all weathers.
Would've been nicer if they'd made the bottle a bit clearer to view the liquid though.

He said filthy inside, how would it get dirty inside in the first place. Yes it is a thick opaque to view, I got some nice pink OAT in there that is easier to see

dishwasher is the only wy I have heard that people get them clean but you have to ask yourself why bother?
Unless you can completely flush the coolant system and prevent any more rust etc getting into the tank, it will cloud up in no time.

If you do decide to clean it try Miltons sterilising fluid , it is used for sterilising baby bottles etc. I have used it in the past to get stains of crockery and bakeware that the dishwasher could not touch.

I'm in the process of cleaning my Fazer up while I'm unable to ride it because of injury.
I'm doing things like polishing up the headers, tidying up the front of the engine etc and renewing the coolant, oil and filter, brake fluid and so on.
While doing the coolant I found that the expansion tank had a broken mounting so got hold of a s/h one which I wanted to clean up before fitting.
If I could be riding it I would be. :D

Well thats different then in that case why wouldnt you give it a good clean, im with you now.
What about drain cleaner, I have just used MR muscle on a job and its good stuff burns when you get it on your skin so it must be good. And safe for plastics as that is what it is for, unsure what plasic the bottle is but it must be a hardy one due to what it has to deal with on the bike.
Try some in your old tank first
