Title: im not mad.. im just dissapointed. [[[SOLVED]]]
Post by: Paulfzs on 29 January 2016, 08:14:48 am
due to ongoing ill health ive barely ridden my bitch but i got a call from my other half yesterday saying she had missed her train so could i come get her... hopped on the bitch for the quick 7 mile trip.. got a mile or so up the road slowed to a crawl for a car turning accelerated away hearing a bang.. instantly knew what happened.. chain decided it wanted to break.....

i haven't exactly treated the chain perfectly however it wasn't that old so who knows.

also managed to destroy the clutch push rod at the same time so new chain and push rod...

can i call it a new bike if everything is new? because at this rate it wont be long.

Sorry to hear that fella

Is there an fzs chain snap that does NOT result in a smashed pushrod

If water pump and engine casing are undamaged you were lucky!

If it lets go at speed it can fry the clutch plates. Fixed a few now, normally its just a case just replacing the chain and sprockets, pushrod, & pushrod seal..... Sometimes you have to remove the output shaft seal retaining plate and straighten it.

so today i decided to put my new chain on and new clutch push rod...

pulled old push rod out first... shorter than i remember them being.... luckily for me it had snapped twice.. once on the tip sticking out inside the sprocket cover and once inside the engine!

clutch cover off... springs out cover off just to get to the other side... managed to push it through with a screwdriver.

Just run it up on the side stand with the front sprocket cover off and check the push rod oil seal for weepage..... Easy fix if it is leaking though  ;)

Yes, my sons broke at around 90mph, it only put a crack on the cover and broke a piece out of the hugger, but everything else was fine.
He bought a pushrod, seal and second had cover but did not need them. I was amazed it did not do more damage.

My theory is that the slower you are going when it breaks the more damage it will do, honestly officer :lol

i did this and no leaking :D took it for a ride its all good however ive noticed the clutch engages much different now with a new push rod.

before i had about 5 full turns out on the bar adjuster and now its most of the way in, must have been worn somewhat.
