Ok ladies and gents i wont mention the C word but the wonder that is my wife is making sat nav pressies noises for a certain quasi religeous festival thats comes around in December. The question is do i drop tom tom hints or steer her towards garmin.? ;) .

I don't use them but two of my mates use Garmin now but used to have Tom Tom, and they both rate Garmin over Tom Tom.

My mate's Garmin regularly fails mid trip, whereas my Tomtom (old Rider 2) has never let me down. Reviews of the new Tomtom 400 are very good.

Never had any problems with my tomtom rider pro. Matched to a Sony SBH20 headset its faultless.

I opted for the TomTom Rider v5, very happy with it and works well with my Midland Next headset and iPhone 6 :)

I used to have 2 TomToms and 2 Garmins, my best sat nav was ViaMichelin X950T. They have stopped making Michelin :\
Now I have Becker and Garmin. I personally prefer Garmin.

Thanks gents the jury is still out so i will be grateful for whatever i get like all good children. Then spend all day playing with the box :lol .

+1 for using the moby. I've still got the classic AA big road atlas Britain in the car, still comes in handy- even though it has a paper based interface! :lol Seriously it depends what you want to do, If you're doing a big european tour you probably want to shell out for a Garmin Zumo or similar.
The market for Sat Nav's is in decline as they are now incorporated as standard kit in most new cars. I expect the price will decline over the next few years.

Yeah to be honest ive survived without one for a long time and im at the age where being lost is normal but its rude to look a gift horse in the mouth. I think shes trying to get rid of me cos shes saying i should venture farther than wales next year :)

I still have a look on the big paper road map before I set off, just to give myself a general idea of the route and location, then just type the postcode in the TomTom and let it do the rest.
Best motoring invention ever (after air-con) IMHO.

Don't forget on a bike you want something:
a) waterproof
b) has talking direction audio through helmet headphones (I've got Katie)
c) has a screen you can prod with your fingers (without disassembling everything) for when you change your mind

I use my Windows phone in the car. It uses Here Maps which is quite good. Ok it doesn't do vias,only point to point but that aside I've not really had any problems. Except in Cornwall where reception's rubbish, it sometimes can't find things then.
I had a wedge shaped satnav years ago, can't remember if it was tom tom or Garmin. It didn't last long, the speaker gave up. The Garmin Nuvi 200 was quite good. The RAC one was ok until they did a software upgrade then it was useless.

How do you connect the satnav to the headset Rob ?
I've got a Bluetooth headset but I can't pair it because there's no way of entering a pincode in to it which the satnav is asking for.
Be grateful for your help.

The satnav probably has a default code. Look in the manual. Might be 0000 or 1234
