Title: Midlands Vulcan bomer run
Post by: fazersharp on 07 October 2015, 09:36:39 pm
Just looking into this my self as one of the last flight routes has just been issued  here  https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=zJoGZd3-Qg5U.k3u8IUZTll6M (https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=zJoGZd3-Qg5U.k3u8IUZTll6M)

Looking at it I can get to see it twice - once at rutland water and then at Bruntingthorpe - here is my route thinking
here (https://www.google.com/maps/dir/52.6545536,-0.6071852/52.4829479,-1.1520388/@52.6333574,-0.805969,11z/data=!4m24!4m23!1m20!3m4!1m2!1d-0.7472988!2d52.6840124!3s0x48778061994aa895:0xfecc75f1ba75d311!3m4!1m2!1d-0.8903126!2d52.7639621!3s0x4879d41ff138456b:0xc3f005770a65d192!3m4!1m2!1d-0.941632!2d52.5106005!3s0x48777066f45752d9:0xa9e8121d4004acaa!3m4!1m2!1d-1.1404972!2d52.4956747!3s0x4877685a5ff29f7f:0x7bd9a67631fc3b55!1m0!3e0?hl=en-US)

the planes route starts north and gos clockwise right down to the south coast so there maybe a lot of time to kill in between the two points
So just thinking is anyone interested or am i on my own---- ( But if it looks like rain then YOU are on your own )

If theres a group I wouldn't mind turning up just for a social, would be in my car but depending on speed and traffic I could try my best to keep up on the run.
Fazersharp, you have a route planned?

would be in my car
:eek    :faz !!! How about we come to your house in Grantham for lunch on the way

I have made my route link clearer in my first post. So far it only includes the route from Rutland water to Bruntingthorpe and also I cannot get it to show a full run around Rut water which I plan on doing

It will be on this Sunday but timings are yet to be released by the vulcan peeps on Friday but I think take off from Doncaster is 1 ish, and Rut water is one of the first ones so would be 1.15 ish
Rutland water is a good run out and also hopefully a good viewing spot, I have uploaded an animated giff of two options by the road. There is a car park pay and display further up the road but that would mean a long trek back along the shore line in me bike kit but that would also mean that we are a bit closer than from the side of the road.

As for bruntingthorpe viewing the airfield is surrounded by trees but not sure if they are letting people on the site or if you need tickets or what.
Not sure is the best outside view would be the south east side and watch it come in or the other end and watch it climb out

If you click the points on the map it only shows a time + from take off but as yet no take off time.

Post by: celticdog on 09 October 2015, 08:12:47 pm
They're not publishing a take off time apparently as the police don't want huge crowds to appear at Doncaster.
The route has now been extended to take in the outskirts of Edinburgh and the borders, with a bit of luck i'm under the flight path, let's hope for good weather.  :thumbup

Yeh there is a lot of very angry people on twitter and the vulcan facepage
I ant bov as I had a good ride out the back route and got to surprise the shit out of a 1000cc power ranger clad rocket rider around some twisties, oh he was a brave big boy on a big long straight alright which is when he went past which i was then content to let him do.
Title: Re: Midlands Vulcan bomer run

Looking at twiter and facebook rummer and speculation. The vulcan twitter says it was due to departing traffic ---now  I was there and there was no departing, a jet 2 or what ever was clearly on hold by the side and had been tere for at least 15mins - a clear path was there.
Then there was a light in the distance which was a cesna and behind that was the vulcan about a mile or more behind.
The cesna landed and for a short while the vulcan was still approaching and then banked north and that was it.
Some are saying that it was short of fuel after doing an un scheduled pass at Endinborough  but then it seemed to have had plenty for a few laps at its home in doncaster for some air to air shots with a helicopter.

People were told not to go to doncaster as it was just going to come straight in and land -- they were lied to as it did laps whilst being filmed
Those people (loyal supporters ) did as they were told and kept away and instead went to EMA and also parts north of derby and Sheffield which also was missed in favour - it looks like - of a photo shoot to go in a future dvd to sell and keep certain people in a nice cushy job.
Looking at twitter and facebook those miffed people are now all going to go to doncaster on sunday

looks like its going to be the same today,no times as yet, yesterday the times were released 2hr before take off on twitter, iam not a fan of twitter but looks like the only way to plan my day.......THE PLAN...first "spot" will be north weald airfield,by the side of the M11,will park up on the airfield perimeter road south of the airfield, think this will be a popular spot so need to get there early, its about 1hr drive for me...second spot will be ludgershall turning point just south of bicester, will use the back lanes, most spotters will be on the A41....i hope  ;) ....that gives me 2hr 35 mins travelling time.....only down side is i`ll be in the cage as son wont get on the bike  :\  ....got to make the effort though, you dont see this everyday, and could be my last chance, but i have noticed on official website they are listing a "final flight" towards the end of the month..........

I'm off to Rutland with some friends and their children, supposed to travel in their car although with the weather looking good it maybe my last chance to have a comfortable run with the lid down on the Eunos so may take it anyway.

Note to Red...........borrow your sons x-station and you could actually fly an Apache helicopter....or switch helicopters and be a door gunner at the press of a button instead of all of this twittering about and crowds and strife.....a few spliffs and a couple of whiskys and you can then be flying whilst flying whilst shooting stuff...all from the comfort of home.......how does this not appeal???? :lol

Got to luggershall just in time, vulcan was early and cut the corner, was driving down the lane to get to the farm track and there it was.....emergency stop jump out and get my second "spot"of the day  :D....carried on down to the farm track where the turning point was to be greeted by a dozen or so disappointed faces, made the effort to walk down a very muddy track only to miss out ........had to show them my pictures from north weald to cheer them up   :D

all the pictures I post on here are from my phone, I used my fujifilm today, last time I had trouble posting from the camerz but will try later, got two good piccies from many that I took....

I went down to Herne Bay to watch, I thought I would have the whole family with me but no, the wife wasn't feeling too good, so I asked the kids if they still wanted to come, no was the answer REEEESULT, I'll get the Fazer out, then, just as I was heading to the garage my eldest (9) asks "can I come with you?".  I've got no bike kit for her so it was back to the cage..... the best laid plans....

Stood at the end of the pier and she came across in front of us waggling her wings.  20 seconds was all it took, but was lovely to see her one last time.

No pics I'm afraid, I wanted to watch the plane and not faff about with a camera and watch it through a viewfinder/phone screen.

I took both the decent camera and my old compact to Farnborough this afternoon for the flypast, but decided I'd end up missing the event if I was concentrating on getting a good shot. So, as the SLR doesn't do video, I stuck the compact in movie mode at wide-angle and just aimed it in roughly the right direction while I enjoyed the spectacle without looking at the screen.

Took the family to North Weald airfield, great to see it swing by. Kids thought it was epic!

The website/newsletter/twitter feed and app were all rather useless I thought. The only route map I could find was the on the tracker (at least that worked today!), but it would be more useful to see where it was going beforehand.

tbh I don't know but I'm guessing from where he said, he could see down the runway either where you were or other end!
however as he's local he might have taken the lane up from Lockington!

Almost caught today's announcement in time... it's just landed.
The final flight was only a very short one, and by the time I got to YouTube the streaming video feed was broken anyway. :(
