Title: DIY tyre changing
Post by: Fazerider on 03 October 2015, 11:39:34 pm

I last changed a modern tubeless motorbike tyre by hand about 30 years ago (having discovered that it wasn't an easy job).
Thanks to lots of misleading Youtube videos showing that it can be done in a few minutes I spent most of yesterday changing the front… only problem now is I can't find a garage forecourt with an air supply that delivers fast enough to get the bead out of the well and properly seated. Sainsbury's at least offers free air, but the flow rate is about the same as my foot pump and the machine at my local station looks the same and charges 50p.
Plan B was to beg a favour off one of the tyre fitters in my area, but they close early on Saturday and won't be open Sunday. :'(

Anyone know of a filling station that has a decent air supply?

Been fitting my own tyres for the last 12 months now (I go through a few) and I just use a small car plug in type compressor. It's never failed either. Cost me about a tenner and had it years.

Is that the dyslexic version of YouTube?

Yes, I'd considered a squirt of isopropanol plus naked flame as an explosive solution to the problem, but thought better of it chickened out.
Wild32, that is one well equipped garage you have there!
Fortunately I managed to collar my neighbour this afternoon, he has every power tool known to man and loaned me his compressor.
I also discovered that my failure at Sainsbury's may have been my own fault. I'd removed the valve core to get a less obstructed inlet… turns out that the inflator tip doesn't let the air flow without the valve core there to push against. :wall
