i cant quite tell, it goes through into the hanger but looks like possibility of a C clip

See if you can actually remove the footpeg, if so is the shaft where it fastens on worn, or if there are any bushes worn that would  cause it to feel loose.

Actually there is big hex bolt (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NOS-YAMAHA-1986-2013-HEXAGON-SOCKET-BOLT-FZ600-FZR400-FZS1000-90109-103A9-/351407500082?hash=item51d184eb32) part number 90109-103A9 at the back of the hanger (the heel plate). You need to remove the hanger first than unsrew the hex bolt and remove the foot peg.

Having said that what do you mean loose? Mine left foot peg has some free swivel play and can rotate a little about 30 degrees. I hope that is normal and by design  :lol

Yes you need to undo the two hex bolts on the left as well as loosening the gear change leaver bolt ( mark the position on the shaft first) then slide off the whole lot.
The 10mm - i think hex bolt at the back of the kick plate from factory is fecking tight of tight town tighty so if yours is loose then it must of been removed in the past and not put back tight enough also it should have from factory a locktight on it. Take it out aply  locktight and do it up to tight - tighty town, tight

That's not a sudden thing, how have you not noticed that before?

Its always been a little loose but recently i did do a big long ride which was bumpy country lanes and a lot of motorway so im guessing this just finished it off.

What physics are at play --- why is it that any vibration loosens a nut and not tightens a nut.

Id get done for animal cruelty but id be up in court with about 4.8 million trees worth of receipts where ive bought parts and treated this bike but still it shows me so much hate.
