Title: engine rattle
Post by: fazer6868 on 19 February 2012, 06:16:43 pm
my gen 1 is emitting a loud and very worrying engine rattle from cold start but largely disappears when the engine is warm.

any ideas guys?

p.s. bike only has a mere 132k on the clock!

Try changing over the tensioner first, it's the cheapest & easiest option!

Then, if you need to replace the camchain you'll be checking the valve clearances while you're in there

I had a bit of a top end rattle on mine 18 months ago.
Had no idea what it was and only happened for a few days, seemed to quiet down when warm.
It stopped completely when the spring in my camchain tensioner snapped and bent 9 inlet valves :eek
Now, dont panic! It would appear that this has never happened to anyone else with a Gen 1 Fazer Thou so I might be wide of the mark but..........
check it just in case.
Wish I had :\
And that explains my avatar of a Fazer Thou without an engine.....
