Title: Car Hire USA
Post by: fireblake on 02 August 2015, 08:55:57 pm
I'm going to California next year and want to hire a V8 Mustang or Charger for a few weeks. Have any of you Foccers had any experience or know of a good hire car company?

Hope you're not going to California where all the bush fires are……oh  :lol

Rented a car for our honey moon a few years ago, almost got a mustang as an upgrade with some international hire company can't remember which one. Just get quotes online. and have money for fuel.

I booked my car hire through trail finders , the rental company was Alamo , but I didn't have a mustang or anything like that , my brother hired a mustang the year before   , but when he got there wasn't one available and they palmed him off with something else , without stating the obvious I would use a reputable company , make sure you have a credit card when you pick up your car , have a great trip , California is a fantastic place .

I have used Alamo ( going to South Carolina end next month Myrtle beach bike week) i have hired a Mustang convertible, will let you know what its like, went to Florida in 2011 ( Daytona bike week) and had a Dodge charger from Alamo .

Booked the Mustang with Alamo via netflights.

Most car rental companies will have a disclaimer of offering something "equivalent" if your specific choice isn't available when you arrive - just so you are aware :)

This is why I wanted to hire once I was out there, just so I can walk away. It's gotta be a V8

Might be worth checking out excess insurance before you go. CDW offered by most car hire companies is not only overpriced, but can have huge excesses that you need to pay in the event of a claim.
These people (http://www.moneymaxim.co.uk/compare-car-hire-excess-insurance) are useful to talk to.

We're going to drive down the Pacific Coast Highway and also visit the wine counties. Big Sur is also on the to do list.. A V8 is a must

Hi Mickey, I did fly drive LA to San Fran a few years back in an automatic Toyota, in hindsight I totally wish I'd upgraded to something more memorable! Don't rule out Hertz, Avis or Enterprise, you'll be sure to find a good deal. We went with Avis as it was the cheapest at the time of booking.

did the PC highway in march.
hired a Kia Rio 2.0
did 45mpg ave over 1000 miles and was just as quick off the line as most yank tanks.
Thrifty were fine, most of the rental firms run buses from LAX to the hire garages.
fuel worked out at @$3.50/us gallon
bear that in mind if you are doing 10 mpg ;)
