Really stupid question im sure.
But anyone have one of them friends who can so sneaky under the table MOTs?
mechanics are not a fan of my headlight and i cant get it to pass.
If you know someone or can your self please email me and name your price.
-
:lol Quality first post, is this a trap ? :rollin :rollin :lurk :lurk
-
What reason are they giving for not passing it?
-
Dodgy MOT's ;)
why not change the headlight to make it legit, get the MOT then return the headlight to your original spec?
As we all know, an MOT's only as good as the day it's written :rollin
-
when I brought the bike it had non of the original fairing or headlines the wires have already been cut and soldered so going back to the original would be a long and expensive process.
another issue is my bike is stored in my friends garage in Brighton while I'm stuck in derby.
I know my bike is safe riding condition otherwise I wouldn't drive it. just finding a mechanical that will give a bit of leeway with Chinese headlight
-
okay then.
get some gaffer tape, cover over all your lights, indicators and then present bike for test.
you will get an advisory stating lights not tested, but you will have an MOT.
-
well I will give this a go
guess IV only got 30 quid to lose.

Nice circular logic there. :rolleyes
Presumably it's failing on dipped beam shape or otherwise causing dazzle to oncoming vehicles so it needs to be sorted out.
If you can't do that where it's currently kept, disconnect the lights and tape over them, get a Daylight Only MOT and ride it home.
-
well I had I serviced last new tiers, plug, chain, pads, air filter, and bearing. I'm not one of them people trying to get dodgy mot to just sell and rip off the next owner. Iv seen plenty of people with Chinese headlights and Hid kits. they cant all be running just day time mots.
-
What exactly is the problem with the lights? :rolleyes
-
well my lights are not the best. before I had bulbs with a very dull yelow glow. like a 1950 vespa. I have some blue bulbs they fix the dull issue but Im not sure I could pass with them anyway. I had an offer for a no question asked mot for 75 quid but they pulled out in the end :/
-
What type/make of headlght/fairing is on the bike and what type of bulbs does it take?
-
Sounds like you replaced your terrible lights with even worse ones, that takes some doing. :lol
-
yeah they are not the best. life lesson things advertised from China just are not worth buying.
was thinking of upgrading to a hid light kit but not sure if it will fix the been shape
-
+1 on getting a daylight mot, tape over the switchgear and jobs a good'ne
Not your fault if you get cought out after that when darkness strikes but at least you will have lights to use in that case.
-
I'm assuming someone in the past has streetfightered it. If it has a standard round headlamp get on the net and get a replacement headlamp for a super dream or the like. It'll be around £30, H4 halogen and will be a piece of piss to fit. It'll be 10 times brighter and will fly through an MOT test. Cheaper still , visit a bike breakers and get it cheaper. Hope this helps. Good luck.
-
if you need a headlamp I've got one complete of a ntv 600 yours for the price of postage if it does you a favour and gets your ride a mot
-
Is it the dipped beam pattern that's the problem? Kicking up to the right?
If you can work out where it should you can mask off the problem area on the outside of the lens with insulating tape. It is acceptable for MOT as long as it gives horizontal dipped beam pattern, left hand drive cars pass UK MOT with beam deflectors stuck on lens.

pay me £10 and i will tell you the name of a place in kent that will pass the mot on that.
ill call him beforehand and mention it.
advisory at worse but i doubt he will even give you that.

Very subtle........ :look

Think that's what's known as aiding and abetting. I'd just fix the lights. Helps to be able to see where you're going

I'd go with the above to get you going for now then sort after before winter.

Why not take up offer of NTV headlamp?-its a Honda product taking standard H4 60/55W bulb & prob has a pilot bulb also, so you know its fit for purpose. Easy to fit & saves all the nonsense of sticking bits of gaffer tape on.
A daylight MOT is alright as long as visibility remains 100% but when conditions worsen to the point that lights are required you are obliged to use lights-eg dusk or fog patches.
There is also the matter of insurance cover that requires a valid MOT or you may find out that youre not covered if you try to make a claim using your existing lights-the MOT test is there to protect us from (sometimes) ourselves.
We have enough problems with myopic cage drivers without giving them the added excuse of saying-"i thought it as a push bike approaching at 3mph so decided it was safe to pull out!" :eek
