A suggestion:
Cotswold and Salibury Plain Ride (https://www.google.co.uk/maps/dir/Eynsham/Burford/Charlbury/Moreton-in-Marsh/51.8893048,-2.0588284/Cirencester/Melksham/51.2641737,-1.6644885/Wantage/Eynsham/@51.6182291,-2.3312022,9z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m67!4m66!1m5!1m1!1s0x4876cf3d7885c035:0x198b110f2be9af3c!2m2!1d-1.376999!2d51.781605!1m5!1m1!1s0x487130131e6c0ad1:0xdf3ea687265bf4c0!2m2!1d-1.63679!2d51.807083!1m5!1m1!1s0x4876d241094fdc85:0xfbae58b8308a3e73!2m2!1d-1.479752!2d51.8745!1m5!1m1!1s0x4870d5d57860738f:0x8a495460b9eb044b!2m2!1d-1.7028526!2d51.9914181!1m5!3m4!1m2!1d-1.9890373!2d51.8056274!3s0x4871170ec905c0b3:0x3a9a6f1f238d343d!1m5!1m1!1s0x48711100b7a975e9:0x34b6b38422d604bb!2m2!1d-1.968243!2d51.718495!1m5!1m1!1s0x487162a4efed7b33:0xe3edc307a3f46eed!2m2!1d-2.137629!2d51.370447!1m10!3m4!1m2!1d-1.6644939!2d51.2641378!3s0x4873fc8fa737c4fb:0x125f8f41d3c867b2!3m4!1m2!1d-1.6660817!2d51.3149493!3s0x4873fd734a878291:0x80a1276fe9a34432!1m5!1m1!1s0x48714b554e1fb081:0xdeed8eca523f496a!2m2!1d-1.426453!2d51.588868!1m5!1m1!1s0x4876cf3d7885c035:0x198b110f2be9af3c!2m2!1d-1.376999!2d51.781605!3e0)
Fancy it? I might look to alter the western leg a bit, as not sure at this stage that it's the best option, but I would try not to increase the mileage by much.

Ive messaged slim about this one

At Cheltenham could we not look at the b4632 over to the A44?
Seems a shame to be so close to 'fish hill' and not include it!

Working :(

We could. I've just got back from checking most of it, and it took me 5 3/4 hours. A couple of extra stops to check the map, and a bit of rush hour traffic in that. I would think that an extension to Fish Hill would add at least 1/2 hour, maybe more, plus I didn't do the complete loop starting from Eynsham. Anyone coming from east of London might find it a bit of a trawl if we start adding too much more. I still need to adjust the western leg a bit, as the route I did around Chippenham to Devizes wasn't great.
Generally, a very nice route. Starts with a bit of dual carriageway to get to Burford, but the Charlbury bit is very tight and technical. The first half of the route swoops up and down and round on the Cotswold hills. Salisbury Plain bit is quite fast, and the A338 has a couple of nice twisty sections. I think you'll all enjoy it!
-
It's all in your capable hands sir!
-
The only thing about doing Fish Hill is, I'd planned to do this loop anti-clockwise, which would mean going downhill on that bit. That means you're on the brakes for much of it, not as much fun as powering up the hill, but maybe even more difficult - need to keep your speed in check!
-
If i do this it'll be circa 600 miles by the time i get home.
Would i get honourary LOFO status?.......ill need plenty fuel in the form of burgers.
All pinned on nice weather & slim being kind........are they even possible :lol
Be nice to see some of England on the bike, i wouldnt do it otherwise but having folks that know the way & can talk the lingo will be good......innit!

If needs be nog you're more than welcome to come stay on my boat the Saturday night to make things easier!

Cheers punk, good o you to offer, kinda pushed for time away since the missus will be on baby patrol on her tod so was planning leaving kinda mid day the day before it that way i can chip in that day and arrive in the area that evening.
Then on the day plan at the moment is bomb burst all the way home after nicks run......like one o the little piggies :lol ......ive done 500 miles in one hit before....was painful but i did it
But if anything goes tits up its good to know theres other options thanks.
-
More than welcome, I shall probably be in Tring by that weekend!

Well I was hoping to confirm this one for sure or not before updating the Wales thread but I think that's gonna be the case as it didn't look like there was much interest in the Wales trip Grayo and on the basis it might have just been me and you.....if you weren't able to make it....it'd just be me :'(
now I can blag a Wales trip the day before on my way up and then do an Englander trip....followed by another wales trip home 8)
not sure if slim is coming yet but im thinking I can get B&B somewhere close the night before
Are you up for it Greyo?
only a matter of time before im chucked off this thread actually.....taking up bandwidth as usual ;)
The Wales day spin is off that Sunday then ?

This doesn't exactly seem to be the most popular idea for a LOFOs ride ever. Is it just that people aren't available for that date?
-

it's because ive joined in :lol.......and hijacked the thread as usual :hijack
on a serious note thought it's only because I need more time to plan it I cant just decide on the day, im determined to do something good that weekend whether it be wales or England.

Hello Nick, there's a few things stopping me from committing atm.
First and foremost is work, unsure of shifts yet.
Then it's the two hour, 120 mile ride just to get there, all boring motorways
And lastly the most western leg of the ride takes me so close to my Dads in Hereford it would be a big temptation for me to peel off, say hello to my Dad and poke my little brother in the eyeball.
Haven't totally discounted it as yet as I know other Foccers will be doing huge mileages, just need to wait nearer the time.
-
Nick,
I'm OK for this one its about time we went somewhere other than SE, NE or S of London

Might see if my sister wouldn't mind if I (and others) camped in her garden on Saturday night, she's living in a caravan whilst shes having a house built in Chinnor just off junction 6(?) on M40. Don't worry about space she's got 3 acres of land
-
I like the idea of this one, but I'm not 100% sure what I'm doing that weekend yet. Wife is tentatively planning to take kids up to family in North Wales for most of August, I'll be in London with some plans to head up to Wales and back at weekends. There's a possibility I'll be riding back down South via Moreton-on-Marsh on this day could hook up for some of the route. But, best not bank on me joining until I can nail things down nearer the time.
-

I understand this; it's why I don't pick up on many of the LOFO rides in the far south east. When you have access to Wales for a similar 'ingress' mileage, it's no wonder I go that way so often, and although this would be an enjoyable day I think, it can't compete with a place like that. But it's the company and banter that make these rides worthwhile in my humble opinion.
This area can't really be considered as LOFO territory, but we've done it before, as well as the "middle earth ride", which is why I, as a south of England imposter, found the nerve to suggest it :lol

Sometimes being the only member of the WWF (west wales foccers) is tough....last year we had a bbq & I had too much bucks fizz and then knocked myself out......nobody helped me!
anyway lets cobble something together, im wiling to B&B it up somewhere so that I have greater reach so who is up for doing what from all of this then......could Wales still be on the cards to a certain degree from the East or from the North East maybe because it sounds like a couple on this thread could be interested when we get towards the West?
But as is on your current route plan it looks like dofo going would be:-
Nick
noggy
punkstig
red ceri
maybes
Dazza
slim
deadeye
arfa
if the maybes turned to defos then that would be 8 which aint bad so longs as some of the defos don't pull out
-
red98 is being very quiet. Plenty of little old ladies around the Cotswolds Paul ;)
-
assuming i survive the usa trip might be in as more local then the usal lofo's
-
Did someone say little old ladies :lol im supposed to be working but may be on holiday so im just in if I have the time off.
-
I can comfortably put up 3 focers for the night, but we are still weather dependant anyway!
-
Its going to be a last minute yes or no from me, got to work it around kids, work and my holiday. :rolleyes
-
Watch this space....I could be up for this. Punk, can I bag a bed/sofa/space on the floor for this? only coz I fancy a night away from the wife and I like the sound of your gold coated windows ;)
It's a focing long way for us real (north east Kent) LOFOs though.
How about a camping pitstop on the Saturday eve God knows if I'll get a pass for that, but worth a thought.......
-
I'm definitely in :) I find myself usually in a similar position to Nick, where South and South-East just aren't as accessible (granted I'm closer than Nick)
It's still a bit of a leg over to Oxford, but it's not that bad and I don't have to use a single mile of motorway - I get to use several roads that I know and enjoy :D
-
I would like to tag along for part of the route. Start at Eynsham then drop out at Chippenham .
-

Course you can :) Still not sure we'll actually do Chippenham itself, but will go not far from there.
Camping? Overnight stays in boats? Keeerist, what have I started?! :eek :lol

Hey Nog each of the rare occasions I've been available to sort my wwf pt membership you've been working or massaging the cats arse ;)
-
Midden.....we all have needs.......you have needs, i have needs.....my cat has complex needs :lol
Just tell work that you have a funeral........noggys cat has died & you are one of the coffin barers.
Big thanks again to punkstig for the offer of a stay on das boot...plus Red Ceri for the camping offer....as much as i know id end up steaming & falling in the river & having fun i think i am gonna go with a B&B somewhere close to the start point because i want to travel light without sleeping bags or camping gear or all the big trip gear...ill already have my far from home bits n bobs anyway so i want to minimse baggage and a B&B is perfect as i dont need to pack a towel or food or various gubbings...all ill need is spare scants and t shirt then.
Looks like this is pretty much a green light then is it Nick?
-
Yep, assuming we get half decent weather for it. PM'd ya.
-
Think I'm going to pre book the Sat and Sun night off work and come along to this one.
Might take you up on your offer Punkstig if you still have room.
I know Nick's put a bit of thought and leg work into this one and I'm sure he's planned a cracking little route for us, so would be rude not to + Noggy's coming all the way from a foreign country.
-
Well done dazza :thumbup
Now, where's that red98 fella? Seems very reticent about all this, what's he afraid of? Worried you might bump into an old flame in Chippenham, Paul?

what am i afraid of.....mmmmm.....thinking back to last years failed attempt at sammy millars, not getting there due to too many tea stops etc.....what sort of problems are we going to have on this ride ?.......wont be the tea stops holding us up,or bacon butties,or fuel stops for the thirsty thou`s,or piccie stops,or chatting to the older generation :rolleyes ,or waiting for the slow yellow ones.......no, MR NOG :rolleyes .....now hes a pretty chatty foccer on the keyboard, what the foc is he like in real life :eek ......meeting at the garage services, are we going to get off the forecourt ? :lol
iam in.....cant miss a chance of meeting foc-u`s scots/welsh legend :lol
-
Great, red's in. Now, am I expected to line up a date for him? :eek Noggy, can you bring a sheep with you? :lol
-
Luckily im much quieter in real life.
At least im understood via keyboard.....ok even that is debateable :lol
Just nod....or keep the helmet on.
As for talking to the older generation......well i will be if you come along red.
Would you take the thou or 600?

Bit harsh.....dazza is a human being....not a goblin........or is he :lol
-
Didnt realise you two had already met...... :lol
-
Lucky im on a red thou....all the cheek i dish out im due a few hidings :evil
-
Anyway....Nick has also kindly offered me lodgings at Crisp Manor House so not only are these LOFO's the most 2 wheel sociable but are also the most accommodating...my grandfathers family did hail from ye olde isle o shepey though so perhaps im drawn to my roots..........nah.....i dont do London :b
Still hefty journeys to either punkstig or Nick but Nick unlucky for you you're lodgings are a whole 1 hour closer.......but ill be having an epic warm up for sure via some of Wales finest roads.....and eateries of course ;) .....gotta get in proper training so i can show how foccing much of a fat bastard i am :lol
-
Mmmmmm...just thinking, we call ourselves lofo's , london fazer owners, looking through the list of attendees I cant see many from london :lol
-
Well, it's looking good for me (those lucky flowers I bought from Tesco seemed to have done the trick :D ).
Punk, get the beers in, looks like I'm coming to visit!
Noggy, you'll get reunited with your old screen :)

Hope you enjoy pizza btw cause I ain't cooking a proper meal!
-
This is shaping up to be an epic LOFO ride... though I agree that the foreigners are certainly taking over from the actual "London" folk :P
Definitely looking forward to this :D
-
Haha those Londoners are scared of getting nose bleeds so far out from home..or bitten by sheep or eaten by a Cow :eek
this looks like fun,,things are shaping up in my busy life,,every weekend is booked for summat :o
as well as looking after (well helping to) two little foster kids, love em..
-
Are there any actual LoFos left, :eek
all the last few LoFo rides I've been on everyone has come from outside the M25, maybe we should be called OLoFs (Outside London Foccers) :lol
-
if i may offer a slight change of route as this is my manor you slags :lol .
cheltenham to winchcombe to toddington, turn right onto car manufacturers test road to Stow. go straight on to A436 and miss moreton, unless that's a tea stop.
the charlbury to burford road is best done that way............my own personal test track

I had considered via Winchcombe and Cleeve Hill down to Cheltenham, but decided to try to keep it more flowing. The Charlbury section will do for the tight B road stuff - especially bearing in mind we may have up to 10 bikes in this convoy!
I'm also thinking about the guys doing quite a distance just to get to the start point, so don't want it to get too long.
I've kept Moreton, as the A44 from Chipping Norton to there is a lovely stretch, good surface, winding A road. The route will be done anti-clockwise, partly because I think that the Charlbury section wants people to be fresh - the road has several places where it could easily catch out a tired rider!
Ah bugger, ignore the little loop at Amesbury! Just used the town as a waypoint.

Sorry Chris, minor omission!
Meeting point is at J&S Accessories on the A40, OX29 4EN.
I'd suggest about 10am?
-
It's a shame I'm at carfest that weekend, looks like a blast.
-
Just checked out the route, looks like I inadvertently did most of it yesterday from the A417 down to the A303 on my way from Pendine, pretty good run and some nice roads, should be fun

If it's going to piss down, all bets are off. A shower or two and we'll soldier on. We'll count on the day, as there are always some who have to drop out at the last minute for whatever reasons.
-
Im in, now it depends on how long this day will be as to wether il do it all , or have to bob off at some point.
nick, so what is the route ? I know the roads out this way quite well, but not sure of pee, poo and tea stops :rolleyesand I guess we had better factor in a couple of granny stops too for you know who... :lol
-

See route in reply #59 "Version2".
First stop probably Cirencester. Next stop Chippenham. Next one, service station on A303 at Amesbury. Any others as required. Possibly a couple of options to peel off early for those heading back east to get home. Once we get to Devizes, we're about half way, and headed back to complete the loop.
Chippenham or Devizes probably also give you early drop out options Stevie.
-
just putting it out there, why don't we all go to thruxton for the BSB instead of a big ride out......... :b
-
I can guarantee tea, only guarantee cake if you get there early enough. Garden opens 2.30, its some pounds to enter and then you have to pay for tea and cake. All proceeds go to Macmillan Nurses.

Apparently in Wales it looks good wednesday thursday and friday and so thats enough time for things to dry out, washout on the roads cleared etc and then if England can stay dry saturday sunday that would be just magic.....you dont want it blazing sun anyway coz it gets too hot and too much glare.
I need a dry day to wash the bike...it is looking rough...it is a it ratty in all honesty...rusty fasteners here and there and what not.....it runs thats the main thing....just getting that out the way i heard how ruthless you were with Harrys bike :D
Best get my map out & hope i dont get lost too. :book

Can't do this Sunday now either now. Working on site in Cannock on Fri and staying in Shrewsbury after. Will be riding back down to London on Saturday. So Sunday is only day I've got with family.
Anyone riding South on Sat want to hook up? Will be doing Shrewsbury, Bridgenorth, Kiddie, Worcester, Broadway, Chipping Norton, Bicester, m25.

Yep, that's my plan, through Middle Barton. Done this route a couple of times, isn't bad. Bit boring on dual carriageway from Aylesbury to M25 and East London though. Don't know of a good alternative short of riding round top of London by Hatfield/Harlow etc. Similarly the stretch Kiddeminster to Worcester is a bit boring too. Probably leave Shrews late morning, take it easy, afternoon tea in Cotswolds and aim to be in East London for 5-6pm ish.
-
Yeah, Aylesbury to M25 you're following my canal!

Get your arse on the rideout exup, we need more blue to slow the pace :b
-
He really is slow lately; pretty sure that bike hasn't done much more than 100 miles in the past 12 months :P
-
Stiggy, it's not a case of getting the insurance, I got it the other day, but it's made a big dent in my monthly wage especially as this month is school hols (and our annual week away).
Just means I'm £100 down before I start this month, so can't justify a £70+ weekend away. I reckon petrol will be about £50 based on 10p a mile.
Just can't afford it now, gutted, was looking forward to meeting some new faces.
As red says.... next time.
-
Just looking at the google maps and it looks like my Saturday ride to Oxford will be pretty epic in itself.....not faffing around or cheating by going any M4 rubbish..twisties all the way....might even cut off from Monmouth and do the Forest of Dean road until I get back to the A40. 8)
A40 then all the way apparently although ill probably get lost trying to find your place Nick but ill get on the case with where to turn off on the A40.

I'll come out and meet you. PM'd.
-
Noggy, be aware that the A40 is closed just west of Gloucester and you get sent on long a detour, we found that out last week when we went to Pendine.
You'll hit it at the A417 junction going east and A38 going west.

That's what credit cards are for... or at least, that's what mine is going to be for this weekend :|
I don't get paid until next week and there definitely isn't enough money for fuel in my account haha
-
ha ha, still got to be paid back though :-(
-
Just checked BBC weather page, looking good for Sunday,
Nick, one question clockwise or counter clockwise?????????
-
Nick said we are going counter clock-wise so heading West from Oxford towards Cirencester I believe :)
ha ha, still got to be paid back though :-(
That's for future Dead Eye to deal with ;) Mind you, I'm still blaming past Dead Eye for my current credit bills... what a dick

Youre such an Ass midden
Does this mean you are attending?
-
A40 still closed at Gloucester. The diversion is easy enough to follow, but long-winded and takes a while.
Route will be done anti-clockwise. As I mentioned, I think it best to do the twisty B road bit while everyone is still fresh.

A40 closed gloucester......oh bollocks!....there goes my simple to remember route consisting of just following the A40 :(
-
Not much in the way of alternatives unfortunately, unless you motorway it.
Just allow some extra time to get around it - the diversion takes you on a mini tour of (all the worst parts :lol ) of Gloucester before dumping you back on the A40 after the roadworks (bridge repair or summat).
-
Man the fuck up and just jump the road works!

Possibly heads of the valleys road if thats suitable....would you peel off at Abergavenny?
Actually just depends what time it is when we are home bound
-
I'm trying to appease the gods and moving the planets so I can try to attend.....
Noggy - try the A40 out of Abergavenny, all the way past Ross-On-Wye, jump on the M50, until J2. A417 south until village of Staunton then cut across some B roads (heading for Cheltenham), cut through the metropolis of Cheltennam, back out onto the A40.
Just a thought - its a route I've used (and abused) for years........

-
I've just got back in - someone crashed on the A34 so I had 10 miles of filtering past all the queueing traffic... and then got stuck behind someone else filtering at 5mph :( Had to fill up with fuel again as the thou was certainly very thirsty today :P
But, after that I cracked open the throttle and had a good ride back home. Ended up being out for 12 hours today and covered 345 miles all in... including my detour to the chippy which was fecking closed! :wall

Thats me home, a mere 280 miles, a walk in the park :lol...thanks to nick for planning and leading an excellent day, will be trying the charlbury TT soon :lol.....a golden foc-u star for noggy, now officially a LOFO who doesn't live in london....another one :lol
off to kentucky now.... :D
-
A great day out, thanks Nick. Great company and great roads. Nice to put some faces to names. I also had a nightmare journey home. Two bikers died on the Brecon Beacons in two seperate incidents so roads over there were closed. Lorry overturned on main road to Cardiff Airport so that road was closed too. I know of a lovely twisty country lane that bypasses all of that so I'll go that way............So did every foccin' Sunday driver in their 4x4's that are too big for them to drive and don't know what passing places are for. Oh well, got home eventually. Hope to catch up with you all again soon. ;)
-
Really enjoyed planning this and leading it today guys, thanks for attending and making it work :thumbup
Weather was excellent, not too much traffic (just a couple of short snarled up bits), so given the school holidays are in full swing, I thought we got pretty lucky.
Extra brownie points to Noggy and Grayo for making it all the way from Wales - you couldn't really call it a LOFOs ride, as we had people from all over the place. Hope you all enjoyed it and get home safe.
Morning meeting:

-
Well I got back home fine,,with a kebab,
Thanks Nick for a great effort , great day,
I went with Noggy until Ross on wye,,when it started raining,,haha ,yes rain,, scooted back to Hereford and home,,dry all the way,,oh and five miles from Gloucester towards Ross,,,hell, what a road, real twisty, not forgiving at all,,rocks and trees but fantastic,,you got to try it.
-
Great couple of days thanks.
Cheers Nick for the hospitality and herding the sheep.
Thanks everyone else for the warm welcome.
Got in at 2245hrs...total since yesterday morning is 590 miles.
Enjoyed some nice roads with slim on the way home, i stopped just passed merthyr to get a McD and change over my visor. Road in the dark from there until carmarthen where i filled up.
Then the heavens opened up all the way from Carmarthen to Haverfordwest....30 miles of getting drenched and being unable to see foc all.....after all that heat today.......dont come to pembrokeshire....it's shit.
Here's the effect it has had on me. :lol
-
Another cracking good day out, cheers Nick for organising it, went to my sisters at Chinnor had a curry waiting for me :) just got home 360 miles in total.
-
Got in just before 9. 492 miles covered in all. Brilliant couple of days. Thanks for a great route Nick, thanks for your hospitality Punkstig. Good to meet the Nogster, good to see all the usual suspects. Had a blinding ride home, felt like I had the A272 all to myself, rode the complete length of it and continued on the A roads all the way to the M2, I'm all twistied out.
Midden, you missed a cake vending machine, you would have loved it :lol

I hope you read the small print before coming on this ride Grayo:
Article 3752g, Part 37: All punctures, breakdowns and general disappointment shall be the individual attendee's own responsibility :D :lol
-
I'm pretty sure that Sub Section 1a to Part 37 stated that "Any costs incurred from said punctures, breakdowns and general disappointments, shall be fully reimbursable by the organiser." :lol

Ah, but if you had checked thoroughly, you would have seen the amendment in sub-para 59x which clearly states that in the instance of a claim, the organiser will foc off abroad without a trace :b

Ah, ok. Fair enough. I admit I didn't read that bit. I'll just buy a new foccin' tyre then. :)

Glad you all had a good time.
I made 150+ fooking cups of tea. Got to watch bits of BSB thruxton though.

I forgot who told me this route but just to say thanks scotty as i did use it.....well i also did forest of dean and then went a wrong turn and ended up at Ross so decided then on your route & it was good roads and well signposted for cheltenham.
Cheers mate :thumbup

I used to use it as a local, when as a courier (on a bike) based in Cheltenham and needing to get to the likes of Hereford etc.
Now I use it to avoid the likes of Gloucester :lol
