I have what I believe is bearing whine from the engine. Only noticeable when the throttle is open. Close the throttle and it seems to disappear. It is probably whining when I accelerate but I don't hear it due to wind and exhaust noise. Aside of a major engine strip, is there anything I can do to quieten it down? Will the bike remain reliable? The bike is showing 84k miles but still rides and pulls well.

Check chain tension carefully. Sounds like its too tight.

If anything chain is too loose!!
-
Perhaps it that then!!! Lol

Chain should have 2inches of play while on the centre stand
-
It has 2 inches plus a very little bit so not tight

I have a whining bear, probably because he's white and I make him eat kebabs not fish. Weird ? :lol

Hi Old Son, I have the same issue - I think!. The bike has been laid up for 5years, chain is rusted, and a few seals have busted. Its in for new chain and sprockets this thursday.

A new chain and sprockets has not helped mine. The whine is still there. We are going to do an engine strip and change the bearings.
