The later models (post 2003 I think) had a black frame and engine.

Older models had a silver frame and engine :)

The bikes themselves are the same model though.

Mine was registered in 2006 and has a silver engine and black frame, might be a late registered one though

if i had a choice i know id always go with the black as there less prone to the paint flaking off

plus they are the faster than the silver ones   :lol

I thought it was down to the colour of the bike more than the year? For example, the light silver and blue bikes had silver engines and frames but the darker grey and red had a black engine and frame

There are two versions of the Fazer 1000

The FZS1000 and the FZS1000S

The FZS1000S was first introduced in 2003 with the black engine and yellow and black paint scheme and continued in Bluish Silver and Black in 2004 to final model in 2005 which was Lava Red and Black

The FZS1000 have silver engines across all years

The Black frame was introduced in 2003 for the FZS1000 and the FZS1000s
The 2001 and 2002 models had a silver frame
