Title: Lubing clutch cable?
Post by: clayt74 on 22 May 2015, 02:00:38 am
As per title really, clutch still seems functional but cable feels gritty and slow to return. What's the best way to lube the cable or is it better to replace it? Any input gratefully received. Cheers

It's cheating a bit, but works without a doubt, with minimal fuss.

Disconnect the cable at control end using Pats Instructions, use a cable clamp on the cable , and i used 3-1 spray . Same with the choke .

is it not the spring in the front sprocket cover that is responsible for the return action although dry cable wont help. I would take the sprocket cover off and clean that lot and then while you are that far you may as well take the cable off and lube it with it hanging up. In the cover you will find old chain lube / grit / feathers / straw/ bits of mice / sparrows

Dosent the cable have a teflon liner which you have to be carfull about what you clean it with. I hung mine up and washed it through with something that I cant remember and then blasted air down it to clear that out and then set up a funnel at the top and let ACF50 go down until it came out the bottom.

One the 3 in 1 front-- I have the one in a plastic bottle with a long spout that you pull out that has another pull out tip, and its useless as it just pisses out everywhere. I think I will get myself one of those dispencer thingys that darrsi has and decant to that

I actually already have ones of those dispenser bottles, they are used at work for solder faux so grabbed myself a clean one. Looks like it should be a quick n easy fix.
