Hi All,
Just been for new tyres, needed following MOT failure, and when the front wheel was removed there was a home made spacer in place. The mechanic asked if I had put it there or new why it was there? No & No. Then he asked if I wanted it in or out? No idea I will follow your advice. I think it would be better back as standard says he.
Later he comes up with yet another problem, rear pads had disintegrated, it turns out he had had to put the spacer back in as the wheel would not sit right without. He didn't know what the problem was but said I should try and find out what was wrong and fix it in the future although it was safe for now.
So the question is this, does anyone know of a common problem with Fazer 600's that needs this type of fix? Should I be worried in the first place as its been like that for the 5 years I've had the bike without causing any problems? :\

the only reason I can think of the front wheel having an aftermarket spacer is if you wanted to get rid of the original speedo drive if you were using an after market dash board like a KOSO or Vapor
-
Second that!
I have a KOSO Speedo i have not fitted and it HAS to use its own Magnetic Sensor - was just actually thinking if i could remove the stock one an a spacer would be the solution...
BUT the stock speedo assembly does lock into a tab on the fork so i am sure it not intended to go...and i think it does have some strucutral significance....but i am not and engineer...
I take it you have the stock speed sensor?
This is what it looks like and SHOULD be on the outside of the left wheel as you sit on the bike.....with the wire running up towards the junction box under the tank

And for reference the KOSO speed sensor on mine i need to fit at some point....replaces OEM one...

Any way you can put up a pic, i would be keen to see this based on what i need to do - would be nice to be able to tidy up the old speed off the bike if i fitted the KOSO one

What size is it? Maybe the last guy lost the original spacer and made a new one himself
