Title: Your thoughts on this please guys.
Post by: SteveCardiff on 11 May 2015, 06:46:40 am
What do you think I should offer for this?

And, can you put an R1 front end on an ABS equipped FZ1?

Cheers all.

Looks nice Steve....& in your daughters favourite colour too if i remember correctly.

I bet he wont go much lower than £3500...not a bad price really & it looks fairly unmolested.....from cleaning mine yesterday & then looking at this one it looks clean in the right places to support the mileage.

Always worth a try though without being offensive to the guy. He has a caravan so youd hope that he is indeed a mature rider that hasnt abused it & can afford a little hit on the asking price.......long way away for you though.

Thanks Noggy. The bloke is actually approaching his 71st birthday and is retiring from biking after two of his friends were killed a few weeks back. His wife is too worried to let him out on it.

Gonna make him an offer and hopefully will be flying up on the 27th to collect it.

And yes, it's the colour she wanted :)

Oh, and I notice it's got silver adjusters on top of the gold forks, and it has a red rear spring instead of the usual silver. Hmm, odd that???

Sorry Steve you've got me again im afraid :b

Seems my intuition was right about his lowest price...he wont be desperate for the money at his age & tbh the fact that he isnt just giving it away is a small comfort i suppose.

To put it into perspective these are 10k earth pound bikes so £3500 is pretty cheap really.....you'll get cheaper...but not without some extra hassle, extra mileage & of course not in the right colour.

Just for the record i dont know this guy :lol

But i dont mind being honest.....i paid £3500 cash for my bike on over 30k miles (im sure the mileage is dropping), its a 2008 & yeh ok it has some carbon and some facy pegs and a bellypan and a seat shell but you know what id happily trade all that shit now so i could just have a low mileage better condition example like this one.

I wouldnt have thought the forks were anything but standard...quick look at them and they look the same as mine albeit a different colour...same with the shock as im sure ive seen standard red ones.....it had such  a long production run that little things like this have changed over the years i think.

I say go for it

That's a fair price for the year, condition and mileage. Be careful not to lose it for the sake of a couple of hundred quid as I remember you going though this for a bike in the same preferred colour.

If its close enough I could go and have a look for you and give you an honest appraisal

Cheers guys.

Deposit paid, flight paid.

Stubborn old git wouldn't budge from £3500 but like you say, no point losing the bike for the sake of £100

Picking it up a week today. To say my daughter is over the moon would be a huuuuge understatement  :lol

So my daughter is now the proud owner of an FZ1. Luckily i'm insured fully comp as a named rider (as opposed to 3rd party only) which means I may have to take the bike out once in a while (http://www.yamahafz1oa.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif) Collected it from Greenock in Scotland and rode it the 430 miles home to Cardiff. The vid is part of the first 130 miles when I was just starting to gel with the bike and was the first opportunity to open the taps a little. Not too keen on the tyres tbh, they're Pirelli Angels with correct pressures but I had a few spin ups exiting corners and wasn't really that aggressive with the throttle either. Bridgestone T30's coming soon (http://www.yamahafz1oa.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Hey Steve, congrats to your daughter on finally getting the bike she wanted, thanks to you being a top dad...good effort.......maybe see yous around this summer as im in Haverfordwest but usually end up in mid wales.

Watched the video, some nice roads to practice on, i see you damagd the pegs for her already :lol .

They are a quick bike, get a bit light on the front end when you pass 7k revs & yep a tank of fuel doesnt last too long unless cruising in 6th gear......so she'll be conveniently going rideouts with you & taking longer to fill up....so that you go in and pay :b

Cheers guys, she's gonna love it. Such an easy bike to ride and plenty of grunt. It's not as pokey in 1st and 2nd as I thought it'd be but i've sinced heard they're restricted in the first two??

I was really impressed with the way it behaved over some very bumpy roads and I think she'll love the handling and road manners. (not that she has any herself)  :D

No need to look at improvements in power or suspension at the moment as it's far more capable than her 02 Fazer 6, and she goes really well on that :)
