They look good. The clutch starter cut-out switch working OK? Heard some reports of problems with some of the Chinese levers

Been thinking about short levers for a while but prices used to be silly but at that price you can't really go wrong

Nice looking ones. Can you check which of the 6 positions is the same distance as the original? I have long fingers so don't want the lever to come closer.

Can one of you take a picture of the levers on your bike to see how they look? Preferably a bit further out than the picture above? Are they designed for '2 finger' use?

Thinking about going for a pair of these myself...

Are they easy peasy to fit?  What's involved?
Title: Re: Chinese levers - :D
Post by: Nebuchernezzer on 18 June 2015, 12:57:34 am
Ten minutes with a (10mm perhaps?) spanner should see you done.  I think it's the definition of easy peasy haha!
I've heard some of these units use the brass bushing from inside the original lever inside the new lever, however mine didn't, just bolted straight up.

I was looking for the longer length ones too (ideally want similar length to the stock levers) and was unable to find them. Does anyone have a link to these?

I'm not too keen on the adjustable ones so was looking for some longer length ones and found these:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181735764845?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181735764845?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT)
They're more expensive but do look good quality with bearings on the pivots.

Yes I was a little concerned about that but I just put it down to it being a Chinese listing  :lol  the years are right so it might be worth a punt

I'd drop them a message to confirm that it's for the FZS600 before ordering anyway, just to be on the safe side...

Just an update...

Finally changed my levers with Chinese ones.
The best £16 ever spend  :) bought them from here from the same guy:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NGB-Gold-brake-clutch-levers-For-YAMAHA-FZS600-FAZER-1998-2003-/321561894602?hash=item4ade951eca:g:GlcAAOSwF1dUSmHW (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NGB-Gold-brake-clutch-levers-For-YAMAHA-FZS600-FAZER-1998-2003-/321561894602?hash=item4ade951eca:g:GlcAAOSwF1dUSmHW)

As stated alerady silver ones are not listed, but you buy any colour and need to ask the guy to send you silver titanium ones.

It was ages to receive them and after more than a month waiting I have asked him what is hapenning, he replied promptly that can refund me immediately and the levers arrived the same day. I replied back that all is fine LOL

I have to say its worth the wait. The quality and the fit is perfect.

Open an account, doesn't take long or  pay someone with one to purchase them for you (do that for my brother)

I'd like a set but have FZs clutch  and GSXR remote mastercylinder so would have to purchase two sets or find a suitable clutch perch (could be the same but not risking my dollars on a maybe)

You do not need Paypal mate. When you buy them and click the payment it redirects you to paypal which accepts any credit/debit card. There you have 2 options: pay with the card or register with paypal and pay with the card.

I got my leavers yesterday, that has to be a record!  I only placed the order on the 25th October!

Anyway, I've got the clutch one on ok, although I can't get the brake one on.  The end that fits on the bike is totally different to what I took off  and I can't see how to get it to fit.  I was wondering if mine was the wrong part but looking at the pics on here it's correct, so, how does it fit?  Cheers.

Oh, and the bolt on the bike that holds the existing one on doesn't go through the hole on the new ones.

My old brake lever is completely different than yours, see photos below and the fit is fine with the new lever which is exactly like yours.

Not sure why is that? Seems your bike has some custom brake lever or there are differences between different years?

Edit: seems to me somebody has changed the front master cylinder for your bike at some point.

I have checked fowlers parts and it seems the front master cylinder is absolutely the same for all years:

And the levers are the same too part number 6 above - 5EB-83922-01.

Looks to me yours is not like the one in fowlers parts above?

This is my brake, but still doesn't look totally right.  Mine is a 51 plate FZS600

Still does not look like mine or the one in the fowlers parts catalog. And is the set up wheel working I mean for the life of me I cannot see where is the moving part there to set up the lever?

Oh well, that's that then, one set of leavers going in the for sale section  :\    Guess my bike has had some changes made.  I can see that there has been a plastic weld on the RHS of the bike, am now thinking it was crashed and had to have a new brake and it was taken off a whatever they could get.

re adjustment, there are holes of different depths inside the bit with numbers on that turns round.

Why not just buy a standard brake mastercylinder for the FZS and fit the lever, I've one you can have for a beer + postage

Thanks for the offer but I'm pretty crap at mechanics and I don't get a lot of time to work on my bike.  30 minute jobs always turn into an afternoon or worse so over the years I've learnt to leave well alone ha ha

I've never replaced a master cylinder or bled brakes and I can see a garage bill coming up if I touch it, that's what normally happens!  I have extensive history of this LOL  :o

Foc it, I'll have a look at the Haynes tonight and see how many spanners the job is and go from there........  ;)

Cover up any paintwork with blastic bags and cloths (old towel works for me) empty your mastercylinder while still attached to you bars (I soak the fluid up with kitchen towel being careful to drop it into a plastic bag to prevent spillage) Loosen the banjo bolt (bolt that connects the hose to the cylinder) disconnect the brake light switch, undo the bolts clamping the cylinder to the bars. Remove the banjo bolt without shaking it around to much and connect straight to your replacement cylinder, clamp to bar, Have a cup of tea.
Refill the new cylinder and put a zip tie around the lever and leave over night (this pretty much self bleeds saving you some work in the morning)

Check your lever feel in the morning and bleed if required.

Providing you dont loose to much fluid from your top hose when changing the cylinders you will find it will require very little bleeding.

I've been looking at some levers on ebay, however when I contacted seller they said they didn't have any for my bike. (98 FZS) Even though their heading lists the levers as 98 FZS when you read the description it says they're for a 97-03 FZ6.

That's the same bike isn't it?

Cheers FH

FZ6 is the fuel injected updated version of the FZS.
Technically a different bike.

You can look on here to compare part numbers if they are compatible or not.

That's what I thought. But I didn't think it was built from 97-03 which is what their add suggests.

Exactly. The ad does not make sense, because FZ6 is made only after 2004. Only FZS is made from 97-03 and there are two models FZS good news is the levers for both models, although having different part numbers in the part suppliers like fowlers, are absolutely the same levers, see old forum about that here: http://fazerowners.yuku.com/topic/27846/Front-brake-levers?page=#.VlXgsL8_RYc (http://fazerowners.yuku.com/topic/27846/Front-brake-levers?page=#.VlXgsL8_RYc)

Hence your best bet is to ask the ebay vendor. If the levers are for Fazer 98-03 they must fit. No FZ6 Fazer was produced during this time.

These are the levers I bought and they are listed as YAMAHA FZS600 FAZER 1998-2003 levers.
