Title: Underheating
Post by: ed1801 on 09 February 2012, 02:26:16 pm
Hey there,

1st time on this forum, although was on the yuku one a fair bit.

My FZ6 S2 doesn't seem to get very hot for a modern engine. At the moment it is struggling to reach about 70°C during normal riding. Is this really the thermostat temperature? I would have expected 90°C as normal operating temperature. Over summer, it didn't get much hotter.

The only time it heats up is if i stop, then the fan will kick in at 100ish indicated, so I am confident the gauge is correct. It will drop back down to 70ish when going again.

It feels like the thermostat is either stuck open a bit or leaking slightly, I just wanted to check that this isn't normal before draining it and changing the thermostat.

Running too cold is bad for the engine, so I want to get this sorted (if it is a problem!).

What temperature does your FZ6 run at...?

Thanks

Ed

I haven't got an FZ6 but my FZ1 runs at about 70 ish at this time of the year.

It's fine, that's not 'too cold' for the engine so don't worry about it :thumbup
