Don't know the manufacturer of mine, but I know it is from England. It is gel padded and super comfortable. My ass thanks it every time, even after a 800 km ride.  :lol

Could be a Dave Digger seat. One of the lads on here met him at some seaside exhibition and bought a FZS seat there and then. Good bloke and god price - about £130 exchange.

He sorted me a cracking seat for my Tiger

I used an Airhawk on long trips and it's brilliant. 650 miles in one day last year on my 1050 Sprint with no bother at all.

Had a look at them years ago trudd and didn't like the look of them just sitting on the seat, but I do appreciate they do a good job as I know a few people that have used them and sang their praises :-)

I've got this,

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Yamaha-Fazer-FZS-600-SEAT-COVER-/131491706997?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item1e9d843875 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Yamaha-Fazer-FZS-600-SEAT-COVER-/131491706997?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item1e9d843875)

I've got the standard padding underneath but I guess it's personal choice in what you want by way of foam density/stiffness.

Whatever you decide If you're going to spend a few bob on it I'd definitely get an upholsterer on the case if you're not manually dexterous . . . ;)

I looked at that too, was thinking after I cut the foam etc and get the gel pad sitting neater, to maybe put that on instead, looks nice.
Is it just a cover? Looks a wee bit padded but better shape to original cover.

It's work in progress, I can see it taking shape, will need to trim the foam, maybe cut the gel etc to get a neater finish, and maybe get one of those covers celticdog mentioned, think that will finish it off nicely :-)

Seat tacking . . . would be a lot easier with a pneumatic stapler!

Title: Re: decent seat
Post by: sinto on 03 May 2015, 02:52:14 pm
Still looks good, my mate has a heavy duty stapler, not quite pneumatic but better than a paper stapler, so my intentions are to cut down my foam a wee bit to take the gel pad (wish I bought two separate ones now) will prob need to cut mines down a fair bit as the bit with the fazer emblem looks quite angled, (is there padding/foam in there?)

I know I could just go and get a seat made to measure etc, but I like doing stuff like this and gives me satisfaction :-)

Update....
Just came back from a 180 mile run with youngsterbiker, great day, and my gel pad done the trick :-)
So when I came home, I took off the seat, and proceeded with the next part of project.
After removing all the tape that I used to temporarily fit it, I then removed the edging on the gel pad and was going to cut the foam, but thought I'd just lay it on top for now and staple the cover, in my view it looks good, I'm pleased with the results myself, might take it off and trim the foam at a later point and maybe even try and get some more foam/packing for my seat area, at least now my butt is not sore, don't get me wrong, I still feel a bit if numbness but it doesn't get discomfortable that it annoys me, so I think it's done it's job.
See pics and let me know what you think guys.

Is that the one the guy on fb was selling? Saw that one but didn't want the silver writing on my red bike, but now seeing it on yours, it looks good.
Does it have any padding/gel inserts?
Have you tried it yet on reasonable distance?

Yeah, stopped about 4 times but even if you split that down to 70 miles then stop, the butt was still sore :(

I recommend this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Panthenol-Spray-130gr-D-Panthenol-4-36-Heal-Sunburns-Skin-Injury-of-All-Types-/111303336985 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Panthenol-Spray-130gr-D-Panthenol-4-36-Heal-Sunburns-Skin-Injury-of-All-Types-/111303336985)

Seriously it works wonders on sunburns or long rides  :lol

It doesn't have gel insert

I am looking for a seat as well. Funny enough these guys do custom memory foam seats and claim the foam is better than gel  :D

And the cost is about £75 - seems ok to me. They do mail order too. I will try them next month

:rollin deffinetly not!
My butt has been toughened up enough with the amount of times its been kicked,
butt (excuse the pun :lol) it's still no good on long runs on the bike :(

Foc me, I went on tinternet to see about a memory foam sample, keyed in the size of 600x300x60 mm and look at the foccin price they want to charge me! :eek

Something you want to tell us? :rolleyes

I like a woman with a tough butt, what were you thinking? :eek
Get out more often, it will toughen up you butt, you big wuss  :lol or get a seat from the 00-03 models, they have more foam than the 98-99 models.
The seat was changed in 00 and the passenger footrest hangers were lengthened and used rubbers on the footrests for more comfort
Fitting the newer model hangers will not affect the exhaust even though they are longer, but it will give a more comfortable ride for the passenger.
Title: Re: decent seat
Post by: sinto on 06 June 2015, 11:13:53 pm
I use the bike nearly every day, I know about the newer seats, already got the lower hangers, I hear the foam is still as bad on those models, so don't know if that would do the job I'm looking for. Plus there's something satisfying about doing something myself rather than just buying a different seat and puting it on, probably that's being Scottish ;)
I already have recovered the seat, see my previous pics/posts, so I know it's doable, just a matter of either triming the foam now to make it neater, although, I think it's ok at the moment or getting memory foam and trying that before I make a final decision. :)

I find the 03 600 seat fine as does my wife, we have done a lot of long journeys touring on the 600 without problems.
Including a trip from Pembroke to Dover, Pembroke to Plymouth and Southampton to Pembroke.
Santander to Biarritz and many others.
A decent shock helps.
Title: Re: decent seat
Post by: sinto on 06 June 2015, 11:50:34 pm
I'm not disputing the seat, loads of factors come into how you feel on a bike, rear shock as you say, carbs balanced, tyres, the foccin list is endless. It is a budget bike, where loads of people forget, and then throw loads of money at it and I'm not knocking that, I'm just not for throwing loads at it, will try a few things but if it gets to a certain stage, I'll just sell it and get another bike, it was just a bike to get me back into biking after a few years off, and really couldn't miss the chance :)
