Any one fitted a steering dampener to their gen1, if so how did it improve things and where did you get it

I don't think the gen 1 requires one. The fazer has quite a long wheelbase and a conservative rake, which makes it very stable. I have had mine air born many times and it only gives a slight shimmy and then sorts itself out. Mine now has a slightly shorter wheelbase with the R1 front end, but i still don't think it requires one. Why do you want a steering damper?

I can't say that it needs one either tbh. She's a big girl the gen 1, and very stable!

Since I changed the head bearings the front end is very light and there is a definite wobble at higher speeds that wasn't there before. I initially thought the new bearings made it feel not so stiff, if you know what I mean.

Sounds like either the cups havent been drifted in fully or they aren't tight enough

I mean if the bearing cups in the steering stem have been knocked fully into position. The cups have to go right in to a lip on the steering stem. If they aren't seated correctly you won't be able to adjust the bearings because the cups may move. It sound like you haven't adjusted the bearings correctly or the cups aren't fully in position.

Agreeing with Nick here - if the bike didn't need a steering "damper" before you changed the bearings, but needs one now, then the thing you've changed is what you need to sort out.
You have to think about what has caused the change I. The bikes behaviour, and attack that, not something you haven't changed.
Also, your bike's behaviour doesn't sound like any Fazer I've ever heard of. They really don't need dampers unless you've changed the original steering geometry (either deliberately, or accidentally).
