I am wanting to remove this and give it a good clean up and Hammerite it. Will I need to keep the shocker compressed some how or can I just go a head and remove the brackets. Thanks in advance.

you could, but it would show the rest of the bike up ;)
get some axle stands/blocks/broom handle under the frame/footrests then support the rear wheel so re-fitting is a doddle.
grease the bearings whilst you're in there too!!

Don't do what I did and let the bike fall on you :o :o :o
I don't have a centre stand though.

Get a spade/shovel and place it under the back wheel, when you go to reassemble everything get someone else to use the shovel to raise the back wheel to get everything lined up and re-assembled.....Easy :D

I put a piece of wood under the rear wheel, stops it dropping down.

:) you may laugh about my recent posts about tweeking and painting but I am just getting a few wee projects to do during the summer months out here in Spain. It gets far to hot for me to ride in the summer. I refuse to join the Tee Shirt and shorts brigade you see here riding here in the summer so a few wee jobs will do.
