Title: Scrap
Post by: Andy Clap on 03 April 2015, 01:07:36 pm
I was going to take 3 car batteries and a couple of bike batteries to the local tip.  Would it be worth taking them to a scrappy instead?  Don't know how much you get these days.

Most definitely. You get paid by the weight. Not sure if you'll need a scrap licence though, as I know the rules have changed. I got rid of about six various old batteries and got about £35 - £40 iirc. Got rid of them through work though. Think you might need ID... Trade letterhead and utility bill to register yourself.

If you take them to the scrap heap it's only them that get the dosh.

Cheers, good info.  I'd be happy with £10, profitable way to spend a lunch hour!

I took loads of copper pipe about 7 years ago when I gutted a house, had to show driving license way back then, pleasantly surprised how much I got for it mind  :D

It's because so much stolen stuff was being taken to scrappys. Railway cable etc. You just need to prove who you are, and they don't pay out in cash any more. Makes it all traceable. Good move, methinks.
