41,001 miles on my 2002 foxeye and it's time to replace the original chaine, love scottoilers :-)
My question is, can you fit an endless loop chain on or do you need to use a riviter tool?
-
If you drop your swing arm out you can fit an endless chain.
-
Did you ever had the swingarm off? If not, now it's a good time for a clean and greasing. If you can not buy an endless chain I suggest you to rivet it at your workbench vise, much easier than after installed on the sprockets.
-
Yep Scottoilers are great, I replaced mine after 42000 miles.
Buy an endless chain and drop the swinging arm to fit it
It will give you a chance to inspect the suspension linkage bearings at the same time.

Good call on dropping the swing arm out, cheers guys :-) Not dropped it out and I know I need to check over the shock linkage as well so now being a good time as I've got the bike stripped to do some other work, like brake pads, fork oil, respray, coolant change, check steering head bearings after replacing them a while back etc, you know how it is :-)
-
Dropping the swing arm is really straight forward and pretty quick. You could do it with the rear wheel in place, but much easier with it removed.
-
Dropped the swing arm out tonight, rear wheel out 1st, then back in so when I undid the swing arm bolt, I didn't tip the bike :-) all came out without any problems, should have dismantled the lower shock bracket 1st though, but wasn't a problem, all cleaned up, no pitting on any of the shafts though the grease was drying up, so good call to drop out the swing arm, also gives me a chance to get it all clean under there as well as change the rear brake pads.
Quick call round to M&P tomorrow for a gold X ring chain and sprocket set for £97 and will be all back together tomorrow night :-)
Front forks oil change after that.
-
All stripped.

Nice!
Much easier to get some cleaning done with all that faffery out the way.

First time I've had the swing arm out Chris, was easy enough, can finally clean the shock too as well as everything else :-) Resprayed, again, metallic black, they never did black on the foyeye model for some reason, new original decals to go back on too.
-
looking forward to the finished pictures!
Think that's next winters job for me, remove swing arm, get it powder coated gloss black, new bearings etc.

There is a pic of this from when I origianlly did the respray in the show me your Fazer bit, but will bung it here, this is from 2 years ago. Was never happy with never being able to get the engine clean, however, I have a plan.....

Thought M&P only supplied split chains?

Thought M&P only supplied split chains?
Usually with a soft link
-
You're right, split link, to my surprise, when I opened the box, however, seems all chains are supplied like that unless OEM and to be honest, I wanted a chain that lasts even longer than the 41k miles the last one did :-) Got some X ring gold chain and the scottoiler should see it past another 41k
