Well heard it all now, we are in some parts of the country, deprived areas, paying Pregnant women with vouchers to stop smoking.WTF.
I assume a deprived area means there is not a lot of money about? seems to be enough for these poor folk to buy ciggies though.
I am all in favour of encouraging folk to give up smoking and giving them support.
But to actually give a financial incentitive no fecking way. Pregnant or otherwise. How often have women been told not to smoke or drink while pregnant ??To me a mother who continues to smoke or drink while pregnant regardless of what her station in life is obviously does not give a feck about her unborn child.

Just shows what a fucked up country we live in.
-
It's the thing todo down here in Essex:
' dunna wan giv up fags, why shud I? get a nice small babe ya see, easier to push it owt, init!'
-
Its rediculous to bribe them.Still bloke on the telly says it cost 400 quid to bribe them and 800 quid to sort them out if they dont.
-
They should just chemically adjust ciggies to cause permanent sterility so these people aren't adding to the population.
-
It seems soooo stupid. As has already been said, it's a deprived area, how the foc do they afford fags at £10 a pop?
Also, how do they police it?? It would be like the stoning scene in Monty Python...... "Are there any smokers here?" " no, no, no, no cough cough cough". Seriously though, they would ask "have you given up the fags?" "yes" would be the reply.... gets vouchers, walks out of sight and sparks up.... job done!

Then you've got the genuine non smokers claiming to be smokers so they can get the vouchers and flog them on. WTF...........

Will the payments be backdated , I gave up smoking 13 years ago .
-
easy cash.....I'm starting :evil

The problem in these "deprived" areas is fundamentally a social and educational one and a typical government answer is to throw money at it and hope it goes away. Already the nation has found a way to make a scam of it and it was only made public this morning.
What a piece of nonsense

a foreign bloke was on a site I was on, in talking I was saying I couldn't afford to send my daughter away to uni, to expensive, I have worked all my life , he then said it is all paid for by the state for his daughter as they live in a deprived area. :'(

Maybe that's the answer to retiring wealthy. Sell my house, buy the same size house for a 1/4 of the price in a deprived area. Send the kids to Uni foc, then sell up and buy my retirement home in Cornwall.
-
good idea that one :D

Well congratulations, are you hoping for a boy or a girl?
:lol

No one worse than an x smoker. When my wife was expecting our son she asked me to stop smoking or at least to smoke outside. I have not smoked in 29 years. It has had side effects though, I'm a fecking blimp. I used to be 13 stone in those days. :lol :lol

One of the effects of nicotine is to suppress appetite, so smoking a cigarette helps people skip a meal that they can't afford to pay for.
Giving them vouchers they can use for food is probably better for them and for the baby, or we can just go all Daily Mail on them...
-
:agree if it has been proven to work, why not? At the end of the day, it's the innocent child that suffers.

well there's reason against wanting to live in a depraved area. 12 yrs 3 mths over due and the local NHS still hasn't funded birth induction on esetest

Seems to me that smokers are a selfish bunch, concerned only with THEIR choices. To me its like feeding your baby uncooked chicken or letting them play in Chernobyl.
Oh and BTW to whoever thought it OK to throw their empty fag packet onto my drive this week.......................... may the poisons from a 1000 counterfeit smuggled fags infest your lungs :evil

Totally agreed with everything there......

Well its silly season loads of shite for the next 100 days lol

Slightly different topic but heard it in the news today. If a woman comits a non violant crime they wont go to jail. She will be put into rehabilitation instead. If a man comits the same crime he will go to jail.
I'm all for putting certain people into rehab. 2nd chances and all that. I dont see why the same thing cant be done with men?
BBC story on it: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-31027549 (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-31027549)

It all went to shit when we gave them the fecking vote :rolleyes :rolleyes
-
Smokers have got the vote. Whatever next..
-
They will be wanting Private health care next.

Are yous sure that this is actually being administered "routinely"
I was under the impresion that it was a social experiment only by Stirling University which is fair enough.
Lots of drugs tests are carried out with volunteers taking them for money but that doesnt mean that these drugs are being rolled out.
While i dont agree with giving scallys dosh for such things i agree that money talks and has powerful influence & when i stopped i put away the money i saved and splashed out on myself & it was defo a factor that helped.
It is surprising what people will do for money & seemingly above board individuals can snap under its lure.
The old what would you do if you found a suitcase full of money or a bundle of drugs comes to mind.
-
The suitcase full of money would not be a problem!!!! the bundle of drugs likely as not that would belong to some nice caring member of the community who might just get peed off if you tried to shift them. ;)

Smoking is a lifestyle choice to use what is a legal product l(ike booze). We're all responsible for our own actions and the consequences of them too...........If smoking is that hazardous ban it treat it like heroin!! Or is there too much revenue collected from it in terms of taxes??? The whole thing strikes me as 'crocodile tears' rather than real concern.
-
shoot the lot of them :D wales wales
