Title: Anyone heard of Held helmets?
Post by: adeejaysdelight on 17 January 2015, 06:27:27 pm
Its new helmet time. I like HJC and KBC helmets, and so I was considering the HC RPHA ST. Then I had a look at the Caberg Tourmax, but heard Caberg helmets are noisy. Then I google'd touring helmets, and the Held ST6 Carbon popped up. I cant seem to find any info on them. Does anyone have any experience of them?

Probably looking at buying in the next week or two. Any other recommendations around the £2-300 mark would be good too.

Cheers

What are you looking for? If you want skmethjng light I can recommend a nexx XR2 carbon. Right in your price range, one of the lightest helmets on the market and it also has a MASSIVE viewing aperture. I also stumped up the extra 30 quid for a tinted visor to swap in on sunny days.

My Nolan N103 helmet (old) is good as well, but it's a heavy brute. The flip up is handy though, as is the drop down Sun visor.

Here's a short review with pics of my Nexx :)

(Disregard what I have written about sizing in the article, I originally said buy a size up, but after wearing mines for some time, mines is now a little loose so the sizing is probably accurate now)

Hi addeejay ive got a caberg flip front helmet that I use for the commute.  It's a bit noisy and heavy but I like the drop down visor.  Ive got a pair of held boots and they're the dogs nuts. Get geared stock held gear do its a good place to look.

I used to work in a shop that sold Held gloves, bike covers and a few of the cheaper range helmets. German brand, generally good quality I'd say, but can't really speak for their more expensive helmets. Could never stock enough of the bike covers, which at the time were a good price for the quality you got.

Held used to supply a lot of Formula 1, F2, F3 and other formula drivers in the late 60's, 70's and 80's. Most were re-baged with other helmet manufacturers branding because of sponsorship deals.

Product Review of the "HELD" 100% carbon fibre super light helmet by MotorBikeTVs Kevin Lear (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fDLz0P-vOss#ws)

EDIT

After talking to a friend who paints a lot of F1 helmets I seem to have got this brand mixed up with another.

If you're looking for carbon fibre try nexx. They got good reviews for the money.

I totally love my Reevu lid (http://www.reevu.com/), über comfy, quiet for a flip front and I get to be a nosey bastid and see what's behind me.
It was brilliant for commuting into the 'Weeg, even in the shitiest of weather.

Tony at Bikes On Parade sells them (http://www.bikes-on-parade.auctivacommerce.com/Reevu-FSX1-Rear-View-Helmet-P3299759.aspx), he's a guid lad, worked with him for a while at Harley's in Springburn.

I have an MSX1 Carbon Graphic, very quiet, very comfortable, well made and a rear view mirror built in. Top banana for the money, they start around £250  :thumbup

It certainly does. Is the Nitro also a pump type system?

No pump system. And looking at there website (Nitro) mine has double D fastener and no Duel Visor System.

Seems I have the Nitro Carbon N1900-VF and not the one pictured which is a NSFC. This does come DVS but no pump system.  :rolleyes

The Held has the double visor too. The fastener is not the double D (which I prefer to be honest), but a plastic slider. It is quick release with a gloved hand, which is goo. But I don't like the feeling of it against my jaw. I'll get used to it though.

The pump system is cool mind you. I like that a lot. I nearly exploded my head the other night, pumping the hell out it to see how far it went. I stopped before it did. Then I could not find the release. That would have been embarrassing. The wife coming home and I'm passed out on the floor with little more than my helmet and PJ bottoms on. At least there wasn't a bit of toilet paper welded on to my bellend  :lol .

Plus one for the Reevu.

Next time I'm at Nooj's in Newbury getting my bike ShinyBikeSyndrome treated I'm going to try one out.

Thats who I bought mine from, I even go a different sized set of cheek pads and head lining to get a better fit, don't buy through the Reevu website especially for visors etc. Order through Nooj or his supplier (somewhere in the North East)

They take about 500 -600 miles to get used to then looking up to the rear view mirror  as an additional safety becomes second nature. Wouldn't be without mine.
