always was tempted to get a much louder horn, and today i regretted more than ever ,,behind a fella in a cage staying well back "country lane" next he meets a car and i spotted that one of them will have to bk up or pull in,so i stops about 20 feet back at least ,sure enough ya man sticks in reverse and flys bk towards me at speed im like wtf, beeps the shite horn and revved it to the limiter ,no good ,prick blew me back 3/4 feet practically stopped on my front wheel with me still holding the bike half way to the floor, after i "politely" asked him to roll forward,, says he didnt see me ,langer didnt even look in his mirror ,result smashed mudguard cracked nose fairing and possible bent forks "ill know more during the week" sickened to say the least :groan
-
Did you get names and addresses off both the cars ?
-
That sucks, hope things get sorted with minimal fuss. Why, oh why don't these drivers even attempt to look at the world around them?!
I'd forgotten all about getting a louder horn myself. Too much other financial commitment now, so I'll probably forget again :\
-
just his details ,he admitted liability there and then like he had a choice grrrr
-
Had the same thing happen when in a van behind a reversing car - as said they just don't look.
You neeeeeeed a Stebel fella.....feckin awesome.

I just hope he admits liability when he gets the bill.
Front end damage on yours, rear end damage to his, he could be difficult to prove blame if it changes his mind :deal
Lets hope he's honest
-
You should also consider a camera to record incidents like this. I have mine on the mirror stalk and record every time I'm riding.
-
Yep I too am thinking of riding with a camera, that driver could well say that you went into the back of him, as the other driver would not of seen it either.
I have a stebel but not that one in the vid, mine is a stebel magnum but I'm not sure if they still do them. the problem I had was the bigger one in the vid would not fit under the fairing. Mine is not as loud as the vid one but it is much better than the fart out of the oem one.
How come the EU sticks its fingers in issues like making us wear high viz (another topic )---(and I don't mind wearing it) so why have they not insisted in new bikes being fitted with louder db horns.
-
Sorry to hear that Downey hope it all ends well.
-

Here's hoping he is a real honest one and doesn't say different on insurance form. Wouldn't be surprised if his story reads you racing round the lanes hit him from behind.
How's that for some real Foccer early Christmas cheer and good will to all men :D
-
I wouldn't sweat it, if he wants to tell lies about what happened you can insist you both take a polygraph test. Just hope he's not ex special forces and trained to defeat the test.
Or maybe were all getting ahead of ourselves here.. :rolleyes

I've got a 'Wolo double disc' horn now. No need for extra relays or compressors. Just plugs into existing wiring. It's not a stebel but it's at least twice as loud as the standard. And two-tone to boot. Plus only €25. (Bought over here in Germany from Louis.de but they deliver to UK)

what's the law, say if you're stopped by the police for speeding or more, can they take the camera to see what you and maybe anyone you're riding with have been up to? :eek
-
I would say no, as it is your property, only if you offered it up as evidence. That is one of the things about a sat nav , if they could just take stuff, they could down load all sorts of naughty boy behaviour.
Tom Tom download stuff from your sat nav and have been caught selling it to Dutch Police. There excuse was that it was to assist the cloggies with road safety, as in were to place speed cameras.
-
They are allowed to take it if they feel it holds evidence iirc, but mounted on the mirror stalk means it doesn't record my speedo etc so they would have to take the time to measure distance and time etc.
Just pulling you over I doubt they would spot it though to be honest, unlike a helmet mounted camera.
-
You should get something like whats mentioned here

Ohh do you have a link please?
-
Yes definitely considering a camera also. Ain't hindsight greathe...... Link for that horn please mate

I've had people carry on cutting right across my path with my loud as fuck Stebel Nautilus blaring at them!
Unfortunately some people simply shouldn't be allowed out on the roads.
-
Unfortunately people have too many distractions now, such as very loud stereos or hands-free headphones in to talk to their friends about their latest Twitter post.
Even an open pipe and stebel doesn't wake them up and then they look at you like it's your fault when giving them a 'gesture'.
I hope I never need the camera for a real incident, but you pick up countless idiots on the road so can be a laugh simply putting clips of them on YouTube :)

Yesterday whilst coming home from work. Passing stationary traffic at about a jogging pace. I'm approaching a right turn into a playing fields car park. I'm always wary of overtaking vehicles by turnings so had dropped my pace and was alert. Thankfully very alert as a bloody great Tesco delivery van who was 5 vehicles from the turning did the classic pull out, then indicate right and drive on the wrong side to turn into the car park. I braked quite hard which had the rear sliding out a bit. I never even had time to use the horn or even shout as he was long gone. I could of waited at the entrance as he was turning around but was just happy to be upright. So wish i had it all on camera though.

There are times in places that I know near me that are just bad, my head's on swivel brakes and clutch covered and my thumb is over the horn ready.

I use hands free headphones, stereo ones infact so like with many bikers earplugs both ears are covered. I still manage to hear sirens and horns. Oh, they don't effect my eyesight either ;)

Where did you fit that then

Where did you fit that then
Bit of jiggery pokery and it fitted under the left fairing infill panel.
Got a feeling there may be photos on here somewhere?

There's a few on here that'll liven people up a bit.

-
The dimensions on that Amber Valley one are bigger than a Stebel Nautilus.
There wasn't much room when I fitted my Stebel under the left panel so measure up first if you're considering it.
-
This is mine http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_sacat=0&_nkw=stebel+magnum&_frs=1 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_sacat=0&_nkw=stebel+magnum&_frs=1)
but you dont seem to get it here anymore, I got mine from halfords a few years ago, dont think as loud as the nautilus but is smaller so I at least managed to fit it roughley in the same position as the OEM with an extra bracket and point it forward for max loud rather than the nautilus which on fzs600 has to be pointed down and so looses some db although still pointing down I would of thought is louder than mine.
(edit ------ just saw that they are supposed to be the same 139db ??? -- how come )
I have been thinking of swapping for the nautilus though, but whats all this about relays and does it need one and what is one, I think thats why I went for the magnum as it was almost a straight swap
-
forgive my ignorance men, but does an air horn have to work off air like air tools do?
I was looking at the stebel nautilus truck horn, similar money but I think it has a deeper tone. I'm after something like a proper wagon bull horn that scares the shit outta people :lol

You'll probably prefer this one then.
Why settle with stock horns? Arm yourself with a Screaming Banshee! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzWU6mafWgw#ws)

This is the same air horn as the nautilus and cheaper Halford version but with a simple circuit board fitted in line-
At £100 it's an absolute joke!
Just buy the Halfords ones for £20 then £5 on the relay/ wiring!
-
I fitted the Halfords version (copy of the Magnum) direct to the existing bracket and wiring.
A relay is good but not needed unless you plan to lean on the horn for more than a few seconds. A short blast is all that's needed in reality unless you like to use them aggressively.
I'd use a relay for a compressor version like the nautilus though.
-
Some pics for when I fitted the Nautilus on my fazer, including the bracket I had to fashion:-

I think they've recently re-released the Nautilus as the 'Nautilus Compact' now. Got mine from a good Dutch ebay seller, supplied with all the wires, crimps and relay required. Was expecting somewhat louder TBH, but it's definitely better than stock horn. I've also seen others break the horn into two halves connected by an air pipe to aid installation.
