Title: Engine cuts off when passing 8k revs
Post by: Leszeks on 26 October 2014, 09:14:03 pm
Hi All, it's my final post here.
My fazer 1000 (02) has developed a really annoying and scary fault. Every time I accelerate hard and revs reaches 8k the engine cuts off. It's happens on 1st and 2nd gear. Haven't got balls to try it on the higher gear yet :)
Just before cut off there is something like a surge and after there is massive bang at the can.
Up to 8k revs bikes works very well.
Well apart of problems with the start in the morning... Which are getting worse now.
Anyone knows what I should check first? I really cannot afford letting the bike at the dealer. Thanks in advance. Leszek

Check the air intake isn't blocked with anything. (Under the seat).

Sounds like a loose or corroded connection. I would check all the connection under the tank, seat and side panels as a first check

Bang in the can is usually caused by unburnt petrol reigniting.

Ok,  thanks. I will check it. However if this is electrical why it's only happens when accelerating?

Vibration can cause it

This - had exactly the same problem after my garage fitted an Optimate lead,  they left the instruction card attached and this got sucked into the airbox. Bike would pull fine at low revs but around 8K it was like the engine gave up.

 :'(

Right, so far I've checked/changed:

1. air intake
2. cables/connections etc
3. new sparks
4. new oil filter
5. new air filter
6. ex-up maintenance
7. I have even got back to factory can...

Problem is still there however now the engine stops at around 9k instead of 8k...

Any other suggestions?

Sounds like fuel delivery problem.

Ignition barrel? Flood/wash with WD40 to rule out.

I concur with schlumpf; I had the same issues with mine! WD40 in the Ignition Barrel cured it completely on mine... ;-)

I always used to do that, but on the advice of someone on this forum, I switched to using 3-in-1 oil instead. Both clean and lubricate the barrel, but WD-40 removes the grease that lubricates and protects over time, while 3-in-1 adds it.

Good point... I'll drop some 3-in-1 oil in my barrel later to prevent any potential reoccurring symptoms... ;-)

I've found it! It was a side stand switch fault! After removing front sprocket cover I've discovered whole thing was covered with dirt and grease.
Deep clean and bike runs smooth again!
Thank you for all you help.
