My bike is running like a bag of s##te
At normal speeds it is ok but at motorway speeds
the engine is like it is stuttering
no power
power even drops off
you start off with a full fuel tank and it drops down fast, when you open it there is a fair vacuum
at the moment I am tuning in the carbs and building a balancing tool, to check the balancing
all my local garages are not interested in looking at it
What do I need to look at and do???

You need to keep an eye on rev counter & change up to 3rd fella :lol

Could be an air leak, are your carb rubbers in good nick?

If it were filter problems then the bike would struggle at idle
Check carbs, jets, ignition timing at say 5k, rubbers, etc

You say there is a vacuum in tank after running a while? Maybe check breather hoses, could cause fuelling issues if blocked. You had tank off recently?

To check carb rubbers you can inspect visually but then also spray carb or brake cleaner on them and listen if idle picks up, if so then air leak. Also check plugs condition and colour lots of clues to be found there.

That is the symptoms of blocked tank breather hoses.

Right I am banging my head against a brick wall
I am lucky if I can do 60mph
all plugs sooted up
I am getting no where
is there anyone in the Manchester area who could give me some help or a pillow for the wall

Gently lift the tank and check the breather hoses (close to seat on off-side) are not kinked or blocked. If they are, you will get a vacuum in the tank.
To test this theory, open the tank cap and ride like that for a bit. If alls well doing this you definitely have a problem with the breather pipes.

You've not actually answered anyone's questions?
Sooty plugs is normally caused by unburned fuel, so either too much fuel or not enough air.
How old is your air filter, and more importantly what brand did you last put in?
You say you're tuning the carbs, but what exactly are you doing?
Give us as much info as possible no matter how trivial, like have you had any recent work done on it, or changed anything?

Yup sooty plugs could be a symptom of the original problem OR whatever adjustments you've made to the carbs since. I'd put carbs back to standard and check plugs again, and also investigate tank vacuum and check filter.
Were all four plugs the same?
