Title: Water in tank
Post by: mastodon on 09 October 2014, 01:48:06 pm: Hi everyone. I have got a 1998 fzs 600. Unfortunately I've got water in my tank, because the drain hose was cracked on the bottom of the tank. I have fixed it, drained the tank, but the bike still doesn't have the same power as it used to have. My mate had the same problem, he also drained the tank plus the carburetor. He suggested me to take off the carbs and dry them. But I was thinking if there is an easier way to do as I am not a mechanic. I have read something about different kinds of liquids that you can pour into your tank to help get rid of the water. Any ideas?

Post by: andybesy on 09 October 2014, 03:24:22 pm: You will want to google this in case I'm confused but I think its isopropol alcohol which can be used to bind with water in fuel. But do check as I might be giving bad advice, just remember reading sometimg along those lines.

Failing that, Isopropyl Alcohol is what you want - 99.9% stuff (obviously the 70% stuff contains 30% water ;) ) I believe about 300ml per tank of fuel is the recommended dosage

Post by: darrsi on 09 October 2014, 06:08:38 pm: Yep, IPA is the gear you want, i put in about 200ml per tank of fuel during cold winter months to ward off any carb icing issues which the bike suffered from when i bought it.
Never happened since, and it does bind with water and get burned off as fuel.
