Well, done me course
Amongst all the airbrushing, pinstriping, plastic welding fairings and generally learning lots of good stuff I Filled and painted a beat up tank, practised me z1b paint job, then back masked and put a bit of airbrushing onnit.
Got a wall to build in Bungay then hopefully making a start on my bike..
-
thats very impressive !
-
Wow, very nice work ogri, I bet my attempts at spraying my tank will never get close to that :P
-
COOL :thumbup

That really is very good well done. I paint my hugger black and when it finishes up shiny I'm well pleased but it's a bit pathetic compared to your tank. You should be justifiably proud. My eldest started painting his yzf750 about a week ago and he's still on the belly pan even though my wheels seem to be deep in dust from his rubbing down..

Top job Ogri

Very kind comments, thanks guys :)
In truth,I was utterly useless, it just didn't come naturally to me at all. But micks a great teacher, had a few late nights ( never git done before 7, two nights worked after midnight) he just won't stop until you've got it.
I always wondered why it cost so much to get stuff show painted..now I know.
That old gs850 tank...two days prepping, two hours painting, two days finish lacquering and polishing..the course was £1390, I've since spent £1100 gearing up, big lump of that was a decent s/ hand 'pressor..
I'm having to sell my fz1 to put the funds back, but it was worth it, I've done no end of old bikes up but never been able to do the finish paint, hoping to do it as a hobby and a little business on the side, once I've got my z1b rep done me and one will use it at shows, see if it generates any interest. Anybody here needs owt done I'll look after you, though I'm not doing accident repair or spray repairs to oem paint, I'll stick with seventies and eighties un faired stuff
Once again, thanks for the kind comments blokes, and should anybody need skulls or a wavy flag lol... ;) U

I love that, what a great hobby, skill to have.
I am sure it will get better and easier the more you do,,naked women,,well theres one to start,,come on ,lets see one
-
Wow that looks fantastic!
-
Absolutely totally love that tank fella - awesome!
You thought about doing custom helmet painting........fair bit to be made from doing that and the quality of your work is already bang on.
-
looks great Ogri!
Is that...Ogri a decal or did you paint that too?
-
Cheers guys..the ogri figure was airbrushed in...it's suprisingly simple..I googled images, traced over the drawing I wanted in pencil then laid sticky mask over the drawing so it pickedupthe pencil lines, stuck it on the tank and scalpelled out each section and airbrushed it in...hardest bit was the rosy cheeks, if I'd fucked that up it would have knackered the whole thing, then used a biro pen to do the lines..honestly, far easier than you would think.
Used the airbrush to shadow the z1b paint and put one of ogris wings behind it to give the illusion of it underneath. The other three lads did their paint jobs, we all started with severely beaten tanks ( took four hours of panel beating before we could even look at filler) and they all came good
-
Here's the original drawing I copied...should have done the bike too but I thought I'd run out of time...in truth it wouldn't have took that much longer. The shine comes from endless lacquering and flatting, once it's polished ( first by machine, then by hand) it's like a mirror. Deffo worth the effort..but with bike stuff you spend far more time carefully wet and drying than anything else in the process
-
Made a start on mine Sunday.. Took two days before it wasreadyto base coat this morning..
-
Put it back on the bike and it seems ok...all off again now and heavily lacquered. Tomorrow I shall be mostly flatting carefully in the early hours.afore work...photos show pre lacquer dullness that doesn't bring out the metallics..
-
But once I got the lacquer on the metallics done the biz...the black looks like dark gold in the sun..
-
Bloody hell , you make it look and sound simple,,nice work
-
Looks amazing! That blue part is such a lovely deep colour!

very nice mate think your going to be very busy very soon.
-
I dunno bud, it takes me ages to turn it out...flatted it out again this morning ( three hours) working my way through from 400 to 2500grit, then didn't finish work til seven so was out giving it final lacquer ( eight coats) tonight. Hoping to have it finished ready for Friday night bike club meet, the missus can't wait to try it
-
Very nice work and well done to get to that standard in such a short time ,keep at it and you'll get even more adventurous . I was a paint sprayer for 24 years in main dealers and have done many bikes in the past but I'm not in the trade anymore but you have lit the touch paper for me again to resurrect my skills
-
Cheers dude, and go for it mate!
I got quoted eight hundred sovs for a pukka show z1b paint job...gotta be worth getting into it again mate, even if you just do it on the side
Got some period tank badges, them little details make a lot of difference
-
First time I've had a proper look at this thread - Ogri, that is an amazing achievement for such a short time at it! Well worth the time and effort you have put into it I'd say :thumbup
-
Thanks feller...can you believe how much it cheered that moody old thou up!
Been treating it again today nick, dyna coils and Taylor leads, we do look after the ones we love don't we... ;)
-
Yep, it's made a massive difference, veeeerrrry nice!
Coils and leads eh? Where does the spending stop?! :eek :lol
Of course, we all know, when it comes to bikes, it never stops. Affairs of the heart :)
