Title: Just fitted a k&n filter and...........
Post by: slappy on 08 July 2014, 03:31:32 pm
I could not believe the difference it has made. The old filter was in a right state,it must have been in the bike from new 7 years ago!
The bike accelerates a lot better and the induction noise just brings out my inner hooligan, 95 miles later I am pulling back into my drive with a big grin on my face.

I also managed to make the ABS trip in, totally my fault getting a little bit carried away and forgetting how tight one of the bends on one of my favourite routes is, and what a weird feeling it is, the lever pulsing slightly and a slightly remote feeling from the front.

Excellent Slappy

I need to check mine and see if it has a k&n....havent looked under there yet.

& if the abs came on then it has surely saved you.....i mean that woulda been a lock up on an already tricky corner.

Id defo like abs on my next bike.

I think I might have been in the ditch, my enthusiasm overtaking my skill once again.

On the subject of K&N filters, whats the best way to clean and re-oil them? Does it have to be their own cleaner and oil or is there a more DIY way (cheap) of doing it.

I thought they were a direct replacement and were ok to use without adjusting  anything?

Your exercise reminds me of my VFR, i had it about twelve years, i never found the air filter  :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

The only mod i did was a cheap small end can from Ebay,,i sure used that bike,,thrashed it trying to keep up with the Gixxer thou of my mate.

Such a good bike that was,,i hope these Yams are as good,.

As for lean burn, it will depend how rich it was running before you changed the  filter.

Take a plug out and photo it , then recheck after a thousand or so miles, see if they turn white, black grey or burn :lol

You can get the proper cleaning kit delivered for under £10 from ebay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/K-N-Recharger-Air-Filter-Cleaning-Kit-99-5000EU-/400700303239?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item5d4b996787) and it will last a good while, don't see the point in trying to do this cheaper ..........

Not looked for awhile, used to be more money than that. Thanks for the link. Just wondered if those bottles contained stuff I may already have on the shelf ;)
